Any word on if the revival will get a cast recording? I know it is still fairly soon after opening, but has anyone heard anything? I saw the show last week and fell absolutely in love with the cast, show, and production and would love a cast recording to revisit it!

There are several threads regarding this topic already. To answer your question, no plans have been announced yet.

Is it the 4th or 400th thread? They really need to announce this already. Robber Bridegroom too please.

There are a ton of threads touching on this subject, but I am always willing to BEG THE THEATRE GODS TO MAKE A RECORDING OF THIS SHOW! I saw it last Thursday and was blown away by the vocal abilities of the entire cast, mainly Benanti. They would be foolish to not get this recorded with the incredible cast.

Me too! Me too! I saw SLM on Wednesday and I'm still smiling. The singing and vocals are gorgeous (...not to mention the "Rural Juror" Haa)! Please, Roundabout, make this happen!

I just had a rather lengthy conversation with Zachary Levi and he told me that at the present time there are no plans to record the show.

Of course I'm not mad, Dollypop! Just hoping something gets announced soon as I know many people who would love this cast be preserved on album.

The current thinking is that the last time the Roundabout Theatre Company did this show they recorded it and that recording is so good they may not want to do another.

They would be idiots to not record this. Laura Benanti, Gavin Creel, and Jane Krakowski?!!? It's too good of a cast. They NEED to record it.

That recording isn't like God's gift to mankind or anything though. Boyd Gaines, Howard McGillin, Sally Mayes, Brad Kane and Jonathan Freeman are all very good. Diane Fratantoni is boring in my opinion, the fact that Judy Kuhn had left the cast before the recording is a travesty. This cast is much better in my opinion. Laura Benanti, Zachary Levi, Gavin Creel, Michael McGrath and the phenomenal Jane Krakowski. My hope is that the plans change and they record.

I agree re Fratantoni. Amalia is such a precious role that calls for a leading lady who can be romantic, funny, smart, shy, emotional, determine, and heartbreaking. Perhaps she captured all of those qualities on stage, but on record, she simply cannot hold a candle to the great Barbara Cook or the charming Ruthie Henshall in the London recording. Laura Benanti's Amalia is such a perfect rendition of one of the great roles in musical theatre, I hope her performance is preserved in a cast album. Then there's everyone else in the cast who is so marvelous, particularly it'd be a crime not to record Jane Krakowski's "A Trip to the Library," which is basically a masterclass in how to deliver a musical theatre comedy solo. I'll remain optimistic about the possibilities of a cast album.

I can understand their rationale coming from a financial standpoint, but for my own selfish reasons, I will be really disappointed if this goes unrecorded.

There could also be some issue with the producers' agreement governing the cast recording from the last production.
Meaning, if they made a second recording, it would basically be competing with that recording for profits, or perhaps they would have to pay profits to the commercial producers of the last production (which started at the Roundabout but was recorded and likely funded after it transferred into a commercial production) I know that sounds very stupid, especially because that recording is 20 years old, but that is sometimes how business works.
But, we can keep our fingers crossed anyway. It would certainly be wonderful to have a recording of this cast!

If they don't record this cast, and the production wins the Tony for best musical revival, it will be the first Tony winning best musical revival not to receive a cast album in the history of the award.

My bets are still on THE COLOR PURPLE ultimately winning revival (more 'revelatory' and it can tour) --that revival has has been recorded, so I imagine the stat will hold.

Maybe the CATS protesters can tack the lack of an announcement for a recording for this onto their cause and swing by Studio 54 to protest it, too, during their march.

La Cage wasn't recorded even though the other nominated revivals that year were.

You're right! I forgot about the Gary Beach revival.

Why in the world wouldn't they plan to record this? It has two name draws that the album can be sold on alone, three if you count Benanti, and it's one of the best Roundabout casts in years. Arguably the best cast of this show to ever happen. So why? I'm hoping Roundabout sees that there is a clear demand for it. You'd think it would be a no-brainer.

It seems that they're thinking along the same lines as Cabaret. Even though this is a new production and the lead is not the same, which was not the case with Cabaret since that was a remount of the same physical production with the same leading man, Roundabout has recorded a previous revival of She Loves Me and that seems to be good enough for them.
