I cannot think of any shows that I have seen live where this applies, but I truly love the score to "Notre Dame de Paris," and most of the people who ever saw the show live said that it was an absolute boring mess.

PICKWICK ....I didn't actually hate the show but I didn't like it because I couldn't figure out what was going on.
And the person who thought they made up the GUYS AND DOLLS plot to fit the songs ought to do a little research

Guys And Dolls and Carousel for me. I never saw The Wedding Singer but I suspect it may fall under this category too, seeing as many other people have said the CD is much better than the show, and I do love the CD...
I agree about Wicked. I didn't hate the show but I heard the CD first and the show was disappointing in comparison

Spring Awakening. I was not a fan of the show but I love the cd.
Off the top of my head, Once On This Island and Brooklyn. Specifically Once On This Island. I mean, the girl turns into a tree!
Oh, and 'Beauty And The Beast'. I have three different recordings of this show and I'm terribly fond of them, but I definitely wouldn't pay money to see it again. I've seen it once and am glad for the experience, but never again. ^_^

Chess - still waitin to see it once with the story done right...there's a great story in there.
Les Miserables - i was in a wretched production, which ruined the live show for me.
songs for a new world

Sunday in The Park with George
The Full Monty (The cd i just NEVER listen to, but i love the show)

Tom, so right about the Guys and Dolls comment. Guess they never heard of Damon Runyon whose stories preceded the marvelous score.
With Loesser's score and Runyon's characters, Guys and Dolls is in my top three favorites.
I don't necessarily hate the book as much as I see it as unrealistic and slighlty sappy- La Cage Aux Folles.
I would have to add company to the list. I LOVE the music but in this day and age it aint a big deal to be 35 and single.
