I don’t think they’d cannibalize each other. I think Just in Time because of Groff is a way bigger draw than Doyle even in a Sinatra role (or maybe especially in a Sinatra role). They don’t want that competition.

IMO, anything that has DiPietro involved is a doo-bee-doo-bee-don't.
I did not see the Sinatra musical in England so maybe I’m making the wrong assumptions. But:
I don’t get the impression that the show has a gimmick, right? It’s a straightforward bio musical that tells a linear story of his first 40 years. It doesn’t have the novelty of JUST IN TIME’s nightclub structure, he didn’t die young like Darin, he wasn’t a Jewish girl trying to express herself through song, it doesn’t have multiple guys playing different aspects of Frank’s life, and it’s (probably) not an immaculate feat of staging & choreo like MJ. Does it even touch on the (alleged) mob stuff and his mercurial temper?
On top of it, Marshall & Landis (& Joe D) have been peddling around a lot of musicals over the years which have gone nowhere. They’re seen as stale goods.
Skip Broadway. Premiere it at NJPAC or Count Basie and tour it. The real money is on the road and licensing.

I don't get this show either and agree with you about no gimmick. It is not like they are going to show Frank hanging out with the "Rat Pack". -lol. The people who grew up with Sinatra are no longer with us for the most part so where is the audience for this show and its music. There was a dance show on Broadway featuring the music of Sinatra years ago and it did not last long.

Joel is immensely talented with a killer voice and is much better suited for this than Matt Doyle ever was.
I feel bad for Doyle. I saw him in concert in 2024 and he did two songs as Frank. He truly sounded fantastic and got me excited to see him in the show. He also told an anecdote about how Sinatra’s daughter, a producer, chose him for the role. She called him “our Frank” and welcomed him to the family. Showbiz is a tough business.
I’m nosy and did some detective work on Instagram, and it looks like Matt Doyle no longer follows the show account or either of his former co-stars. It appeared on socials that they were fairly close at the time of both of the other runs, so I’m a little surprised. Doyle also seems to have scrubbed his profile of any traces of Sinatra. Makes me think there’s some bad blood.

That is really sad. It must hurt. Now he’s doing Matthew Lombardo plays back to back.

That is the saddest part --- he is down to Matthew Lombardo plays. If that thing happens at all.

Matt's relationship fell apart around the time he was doing Sinatra. Perhaps that's got something to do with it too?
