Sing Street 2022?

Has anyone heard any news about Sing Street's return to Broadway? All they have said is that it eyes an opening sometime in the winter/spring of 2022, but that was almost a year ago.

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

I haven't heard anything, and I'm likewise eagerly awaiting any news about it.

It's such a strange situation. 3 months ago I would've said "well, if we haven't heard by now, it must be dead." But now that it's been even LONGER, I'm more inclined to think: well, if they had no intention of coming back, wouldn't they have said so by now? Sometimes shows announce transfers that never happen, but this seems different. They had their cast, their theatre, their cast recording, they were almost in previews. And it's still listed on IBDB.

All this is to say that I don't think their return prospects would fizzle out, I think they probably have to make an announcement at some point. And now that we have open theatres, I wonder if they will try to hop in this Spring.

If I were them, I'd be concerned about the ages of the cast. Some of them might have aged out of their roles, particularly Brenock O'Connor in the lead.

I’m with you JBroadway. Sing Street might not be my cup of tea but I am curious to find out what’s going to happen with it. Very odd there has been nothing mentioned yet.

I feel like if we haven't heard by mid-January, then we should assume that they'll be on in '22-'23. I also hope they are taking this time to tighten up the book. When I saw it at NYTW (ironically the day they announced they were transferring), I thought it had good bones, but there were too many characters and plotlines to care about.

Hoping it opens by summer. The Broadhurst feels like a great fit, or Longacre after Hamlet. I think it would work well in the Golden as well.

Just noticed that the official website, which I’ve been checking periodically, seems to have taken down the longstanding banner that said it will open “between winter 2021 and early 2022.” I suppose this could mean all plans are off, but I hope instead it means that an announcement is imminent.

Many of their cast members were British (and visas have been tougher to come by) and a few have outgrown their roles. I hear they planning an out of town production this fall then coming back to Broadway in the winter/spring of 2023.

Unless this is going into the Broadhurst, there isn't a theater available for them. Thinking they hold off until the Fall.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

That would make sense. Assuming they've been working on the book and structure of the show?
