How soon until Whoopi is stunt casted into the show?
Whoopi has already said she does not want to play the role on Broadway. She doesn't think she "does Menken's score justice."
thought the show was totally entertaining when i saw it in london - some kick ass high energy great songs - not perfect but that sort of highly entertaining that puts a smile on your face. Patina Miller was fantastic - and I saw her do the show when she was well into the run - like maybe a full year...
I can't believe this starts rehearsals in less than a month, and we still don't have a cast announcement besides Patina.
I've heard an offer went out recently for Mother Superior. No idea who it is.

^ It's like waiting for the "9 to 5" tour cast announcement all over again.

I think this show is going to do well...it's a show that is very high energy, and it's a great evening out at the theater.
Did anyone go to the press event or hear anything about it which was help the other day?
Hopefully this means the cast will be announced soon . .
Cute little video with Patina and Victoria .. .
also, the press rehearsal was today :) Is anyone else as excited as me?

Looks like they've restored the plot point about Curtis giving Deloris his wife's coat from the film. And apparently it opens at Christmas as opposed to her birthday. And I guess the joke about her being Protestant is gone.
I'm a little sad that they changed the keys on "Fabulous Baby".
I'm really excited to see the show and excited to see how Douglas Carter Beane's new book is.
Can't wait to hear Clark's "Here Within These Walls." I hope they upload it soon!!
Awww, it's been taken down.
Was it just a key change in Fabulous Baby or an actual new opening?
Here ya go. I'm not crazy about the new key. But I understand if they are trying to protect Patina's voice.

I believe that's a new opening to the song as well.
All I want is a Broadway cast recording if the score has changed...
Thanks ljay!
Wow, that whole scene changed and it's much better. That is definitely a new opening (it's a pre-prise of the bridge) I like that it gives us some background on Delores.
Also, the back-up singers had an additional line or two I think.
Can not wait to hear Victoria Clark!
Grrrrr. BWW has clips. But the video doesn't load.

Love Patina but not a fan of that performance. Maybe it was the lowered key but she didn't wow me like she usually does.

I like this new version...some of Beane's good work apparent already?
Grrrrr. BWW has clips. But the video doesn't load."
I know! All I get is a commercial for the Les Mis DVD
I've never heard that song before, but I think she sounds great and I like the song too. I'm really excited for this show.
But I did just listen to the cast recording version of it. I don't really mind the key change, although the original is really great. The last note is a killer if it isn't hit right and it kind of seems that the role is taking a tole on Patina's voice. She sounds great in the Broadway.com version, but the cast recording is much cleaner.

At first I thought you all were crazy talking about a key change? Then I listened very closely to the video and the OLCR very closely and see the change. I really think that the score has taken a toll on Patina's voice. I always thought that she sounded like she was pushing that last note in the song. They really need to just make sure she is comfortable with hitting the notes 8 shows a week because no one wants to see her sing optional notes. We want the money notes. She has got some they just need to work on staying within her range and not extending it too far. I gotta say I love her and the new opening scene dialogue way better than the London dialogue. Then again that is why Douglas Carter Bean is making the big bucks.
Fabulous Baby is probably my favorite song in the show (not too keen on the staging), but I've always wondered about the fact that the action was moved back to 1978, yet the orchestrations for that song are so distinctly mid-80s. Anyone know if they have replaced the songs for the males yet? Better songs for the men will be the best shot the show could hope for. Well, that and getting rid of the giant cheese wheel.
GRRRR. I really wish BWW would fix the video. I'm dying to see Clark.
