Victoria Clark.
I searched, but didn't see this posted yet. The principals started rehearsals this week. Also, Marla Mindelle is Sister Mary Robert.
I'm so stoked for this show.
Well that's bizarre casting.....
Nobody else cares? The idea is warming up to me. It's just not a role that I had imagined Clark in.
I had a pipe-dream that it would be Angela Lansbury.
As bizarre as it may be I am still looking foward to this show a little more now. Her rendition of Here Within These Walls is going to be terrific.
I can see it. But why hasn't the full cast been announced? Who are the rest of the principals (besides those two and Patina)?
What on earth is bizarre about it? Victoria Clark is perfect. She can be funny and she has one of the great voices on the planet. The Mother Superior has a couple of very nice songs and it will be amazing to hear her sing them. It's fabulous casting.
I think she'll be WONDERFUL and I'm so glad to have her back on Broadway. I'm pretty excited for this show...and I hope the search for Sister Mary Lazarus has gone well. Any news on that?
I think it's great casting! I'm surprised she took the role, but I'm delighted.
She's great in everything. Equally adept at musical comedy as she is with refined musical drama. Great belt and a soaring head voice. She was a great Adelaide replacement in Guys & Dolls. I thought she was the only one in '60s musical comedy mode when she played Smitty in the 1995 How to Succeed. She was lovely and memorable in Titanic. Broad, funny and sang the hell out of her especially blowsy Pennywise in Urinetown. And then, great, of course, in Light in the Piazza.
This is exciting! Her performance in PIAZZA is one I'll never forget. Brilliant in every way. I am really pumped for this show! I hope Douglas Carter Beane improves the book, which I heard was the show's biggest problem by far. If anyone can inject some genuine heart and humor into a show, it's him.
I'm not convinced the show is completely cast. There will still having auditions this past week.
I love Victoria clark. The idea was just a bit jarring at first because she's not exactly in the Maggie Smith and Sheila Hancock mold. I can't wait to see what she does with the role.
I'm not entirely sure how true this information is...
"I had a pipe-dream that it would be Angela Lansbury."

Wow...didn't see this coming but I definitely approve! I adored her in Piazza!
I wanted Mary Testa!!!!
I would love to see Elaine Stritch as Sister Mary Lazarus.
I'll believe it when I see it
Well, believe it...she's in rehearsals right now :)
Right now? Like this morning?
Love Victoria, but if true, it wouldn't have been my first choice, only because it'll be a different dynamic than Sheila Hancock brought to it.
Can I ask where you got this info?
Did the character Marla is playing have a song in London?
She's great, good break for her.
^ Yes. She has a beautiful solo called "The Life I Never Led" - and a reprise of it.
