Smokey Joe's Cafe Revival Coming

Impressive detective work. And there's no point in a revival of this show, especially with Motown coming back.

Because as everyone knows 2 Broadway shows with a majority African American cast running at the same time is just a no-no. Amirite?

As Hamilton22 would say: THE LULZ

Agree Stew
It would not be be BWW with out a comment like that.I was never a fan of someone trying to lay guilt on everyone but you go with what ya got
By the way, we saw the original and even have the DVD of it. It had , as I remember , a small cast and not many African Americans . I therefore have no idea what the race factor has to do with this or any show for that matter. I judge by a performers talent.

It's because CarlosAlberto's favorite pastime is finding racism where there is none.

Do Motown and Smokey Joe's even share a song in common between the two? I'm not seeing one.

I do not think there is

No it's not. My favorite pastime is laying pipe. And my post was a friggin' joke...such a group of uptight ninnies on this board. Pull the wedgies out your asses.

Guess we will count that as a no. Had a very good run so this is very surprising.

Wait, how are people not more blown away by someone locating a freaking SEC securities form that might foreshadow a Broadway revival? I am floored.

Yeah. I am extremely impressed. I meant to praise the OP earlier.

Via Urban Dictionary: "Laying pipe is simply ****ing the hell out of a girl." Didn't know you were into girls! L'chaim!

Gold star for Cinders
If it was a joke, there are a lot of similar jokes by others on the board. Since it is Christmas and in the interest of spreading good cheer, I will take you at your word Mr C.

It's a fun show, but I'm really not that interested in seeing it on Broadway again.
There are a many other revues I would love to see revived instead.

Totally agree. Put it @ NWS and it might make it.

Eh. I really didn't find the original show very interesting. I think it's success could be credited to the nostalgia of a generation as it didn't really add much creativity or innovation (e.g. Ain't Misbehavin'
. What really held my attention was the wonderful talent of the cast, but I never had the urge to see it again or even listen to the cast recording. It just wasn't my thing. But given the fact that it surprised everyone with its long run and popularity, perhaps lightning could strike twice.
Personally, I'd prefer to see All You Need is Love on Broadway (revue of Lennon/McCartney songs). I saw the London production and the problem with the show had to do with staging and design. They attempted to create a bookless story in the staging and the design was fugly. The arrangements of the songs were extraordinary, however, and they could easily stand on their own without trying to force them into some pointless and ambiguous narrative. Bring in the creative team behind American Idiot (Michael Mayer, Steven Hoggett, Christine Jones, Andrea Lauer and Kevin Adams) and you could potentially have a smashing revue.

As much as I appreciate the praise, it really wasn't that hard. Was bored and simply searched Smokey Joe's Cafe Broadway Revival on google.
You can also use this page to more quickly find such information about any company (broadway or not):

Audition notice went up. Starts previews in July, which is odd. Directed by Jerry Zaks. Choreography by Carylye.

so this & Motown on Broadway at the same time? Both will cancel each other out & close by the end of 2016.
