Snow closing?#1

Is there any chance that shows won't play tonight due to the impending storm that will be hitting the northeast later tonight? I was going in to try and catch a show but don't want to brave the miserable weather to get there and find out the show is cancelled.

Very rarely do shows cancel performances due to inclement weather. I believe it would take a declaration of a state of emergency, where only service vehicles/workers are supposed to be on the road for that to happen.

We are in a blizzard warning currently in MD and Dreamgirls is still going to play both shows today...hoping I can exchange for one night this week!

It's rare, but it does happen. I believe the state of emergency does need to be called.

A Saturday night would be the last thing in the world the shows would want to call off!

If you're in the city, tonight might actually be a great night to try for a show. People from out of town are much less likely to get to the show because of the weather.

Maybe if a snow emergency is called and all non-essential vehicles are not authorized on roads, until crews clean them and they are deemed safe and passable. Mayor usually calls it, road conditions are a factor as well as trains. Since it is a weekend he may not do it, also if one gets called it would most likely be tomorrow, so todays performances should not be a problem.

plus considering all shows have a matinee today, it's not like any of the cast members will miss tonight's shows due to the weather. All actors will likely just stay in the theater. Also, it hasn't started snowing yet(as of 12:23pm) in NYC, so my guess is all shows will play tonight.

Tourists staying in or near Times Square are in good shape & never have to leave the area. This may be the best place to be.Restaurants, bars, shows, all the Christmas decorations & open air markets will make for a great time for those already here.

Actually, as of 12 noon today, both shows of Dreamgirls in Balitmore have been called off. If you are holding tickets for either saturday show, do NOT come in to town because we won't be there. The snow is getting worse as the day progresses.

I'm only 45 minutes from the City on the south shore of Long Island and it just started snowing here... that means it'll probably be hitting the City any minute if it hasn't already. We're getting 10 inches here, the City will probably be getting even more.

I was going to try go see August: Osage County at the Kennedy Center today, but considering this is DC, they'll most likely cancel, so it's not worth the effort.

Back when I lived in DC I had tickets for RENT at the Warner Theater, and it was cancelled due to heavy snow.It was a drag because I was taking a good friend of mine to see the show, and about 4 months later, he died. One year there was a disaster where a roof collapsed due to heavy snow, but that was early in the 20th century I think.

there's around half inch of snow on the ground in NYC so I'd say yes is a good guess. There's no blizzard here. People are walking around without an umbrella. It's very nice out.

We attempted to go into NYC at around 5:30 (from Brooklyn), but the snow and wind started to kick up (the really heavy stuff is supposed to start overnight), so we headed back home.

There was a huge snowstorm when I saw RING OF FIRE on February 11, 2006...and the show went on!

I don't think shows ever cancel due to snow (or if they do, it is VERY rare).

I remember trudging through a blizzard to City Center to see Putting It Together--and getting a cancellation for 5th-row center aisle!

I live in Richmond and was supposed to see August Osage County and Young Frankenstein at the Kennedy center today in d.c. and virginia was in a state of emergency but we decided to try anyway. it usually takes 2 hours to get to D.C. from richmond so we left at 9 in the morning to be safe to get there in time to see August at 1:30. however, at 1:30, we were still stuck in traffic and ended up just turning around and driving 3 hours back. it was an adventure all right haha.

A few years ago, we drove in from NJ to see Little Women in conditions worse than today's.

Dolly, I don't know where you are on Long Island but the heavy snow started at 5:45 and hasn't stopped. We have about 2.5 inches on the ground and the plows are going.

Anyone know if shows currently up in Washington or Philly will be closed today? I'm pretty sure there's a snow emergency declared in DC. Not sure about Philly.
