Hello all,
I'm involved in a cabaret where the theme is "darkest secrets" My secret is that I once attempted suicide and would like to find a MT song (it can be from film/tv as well) when a character is about to commit suicide (besideds Soliloquy in Les Miz).
Thank you for the help.
Since you said TV is ok: "Suicide is Painless," the theme from M*A*S*H.

I don't do sadness from Spring Awakening comes to mind, maybe even a bit of Moritz Monologue before hand to start it off with.
There is a beautiful song by Maury Yeston called "By The River." It's very poetic, and doesn't explicitly state that it's about suicide, but I've always assumed that it was. The lyrics would heavily suggest that it's about someone planning to drown themselves, but it's very tasteful and very beautiful.

"
It wa written for the movie...the tv show only used it as an instrumental piece, thinking the lyrics we're too much.

I feel that "Left Behind" from Spring Awakening is more fitting than "Don't Do Sadness".
Someone already mentioned "Kindergarten boyfriend" from Heathers, but there's also "Lifeboat" from Heathers.
If you want to get technical - "Still" from Titanic.
The Strausses decided to stay on the Titanic intstead of getting on the lifeboats, so they technically commited suicide together.
in Saturday Night Fever, Bobby C. jumps off the Brooklyn bridge after singing "Tragedy".

Javert's Suicide, obvs.
Edges of the World is SO darn good.

"Flowers" from Hadestown is about Eurydice's decision to follow Hades, which for all intents and purposes is suicide. It's also a GORGEOUS song.
ClassicalMusicPlayer2, I have no additional songs to contribute. I just want to say how glad I am that you did not succeed. I also want to congratulate you on your courage in performing at the cabaret -- you may save someone's life.

Not precisely about suicide, but it's there lurking in the background - a great song from Dear Evan Hansen you might use is "Waving Through a Window"
I would suggest anything from Heathers ("Lifeboat, "Kindergarten Boyfriend" etc.)
Also someone mentioned "Broadway, Here I Come" From SMASH. That's a good choice too.

The Light Princess has a stunning song called "Darkest Hour," in which the protagonist decides to commit, and then proceeds to attempt, suicide. This follows the show's standout, "No H2O," where it is revealed her father has subjected her to torture as a means of forcing her to marry against her will. I recommend giving them both a listen.
