I am an unhappy child. I was suspecting this would happen...honestly, I expected it to close before Hairspray...but Spamalot is my favourite musical. Though I guess I should wait for official proof... Wonder how long before Phantom ends up closing?

Thanks for the update, Smaxie. Not a SPAMALOT fan, any word on which show will be taking over the theatre?
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I'm not a Python fan, but I did venture to the Shubert this past May to see the show with a buddy of mine - who is a fan of Idle and the bunch. I went for the music... Let's put it that way. I found some of the material funny. Jon Hadary was a really, really solid Arthur - compared to other replacements.
I can't say I'm happy with it taking 'Best Musical' over DRS, but whatever ... I don't hold grudges.
It had a good run, 3+ years. I think it's supplied a lot of laughs for a lot of people (both Python and theatre freaks alike). They should be proud.
I'm curious as to what'll take the house, though...
It's SOOOO stupid that Clay leaves 4 January, but it closes on 18!!!!!!! Why are they having a replacement for 16 performances???????? They should just close on the 4th!!!!
Do we know for sure that Clay won't extend his run? Sigh, I always suspected that the show'd close soon as Clay left... I haven't felt this upset since Les Miserables closed... At least this'll help me get over Hairspray's closing.

Wow and the West End one closes Jan 3rd,that's pretty close together. It's such a funny show, i loved the West End production.Avenue Q has also announced its closure inn the West End, i have a feeling it wont be long before that announces on Broadway to.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Definitely upset that it is closing! Love me some SPAMALOT!
The only interesting/cool/fun thing that might be the reason why Clay is leaving on Jan. 4th... is (some of) the original cast coming back to close the show? Updated On: 10/17/08 at 08:00 PM
I know it's not likely, but Spamalot could really go out with a bang if Eric Idle could arrange for the OBC to reprise their roles for the final show/shows. I'd pay top dollar to see them again. That was Spamalot at its best.
OMG!!! remember like a week ago I asked you guys where I should take my Language Arts story about Cubby Bernstein!?!?!? The first conversation in the story is the assisstant telling Cubby he sensed Spamolot was next!!!!! IM PSYCHIC!!!!!!!
That would be utterly amazing if some of the OBC returned. I certainly won't get my hopes up, but to see Tim Curry or Christian Borle or David Hyde Pierce or Hank Azaria or Sara Ramirez back in Spamalot would be a dream come true-- I never did get to see the original cast either time I saw Spamalot. Oh, or Eric Idle himself could even snag a cameo role in one of the parts usually played by one of the principles.
Pli, your parents should see the show regardless of who plays Sir Robin! Letting one dud cast member prevent you from enjoying a great show just isn't worth it. (But then, I'm really biased.)

Sad, not surprised. Although I've heard mixed things I'm still going to try to see it.
