She sounds gorgeous! It only took me a sec to get the Whitney version out of my head... this is so brilliantly different.
Hopefully Perez's link will convince some of his readers to buy the single/album. I'm kind of torn that he put it out there for free on it's first day to get any kind of monetary support. This isn't the first time he's given Steph publicity. If he loves her that much, maybe put a 20 second teaser out there and encourage people to buy.
It's only available to play on Perez, not to download, and I think the publicity is absolutely a good thing, considering his pageviews. And let's just say that Stephanie was very happy about it, trust me.

Please don't get me wrong. I definitely can appreciate the publicity he is giving her. See, the thing is that I plain just don't like him LOL ... but then here he goes talking her up again, so what to think!? But I AM really glad to know that Stephanie is happy about it! That was beautiful, and hopefully a good indicator of what the rest of the CD will sound like.
Somehow, their voices fit with each other.

Can't wait to get this cd. I think Stephanie is one of the most talented ladies on Broadway. I met her once and she was just so gracious and really cares about the broadway community.
I love how the people on Perez think they know so much about Stephanie's voice from that one track. People are saying "she doesn't have pipes to hit these notes". If they only knew she was Elphaba and hit notes above and beyond those every night lol...
Does anyone have the free download of get out and stay out from the 9 to 5 website? I had it on my old computer and I can't seem to find the link to download it from the webpage.
Can't wait to buy this album. Stephanie is truly one of broadway's most talented ladies out there. I'm sure we will all enjoy hours of listening to her new album. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!
It looks like Stephanie's album is available on iTunes today! I've listened to a few songs so far and they are gorgeous!! Updated On: 5/9/09 at 07:25 PM
I just downloaded the whole album and it's incredible!!! I especially love "Fifteen Pounds (Away from my love)" SOOOOOO funny!!! Her voice gives me chills

but without theatre we'd be dead
from what you can hear on itunes i love it and cannot wait for my copy to arrive (though i guess it is still gonna be a while).
any idea why it was released early? (just wondering)

Well it was planned to be released for download early, maybe not from the start, but as of the last few weeks it was. When I saw 9 to 5 on 4/25 I asked about the CD and she had mentioned that it was being released for download sometime early May before the hard copies came out in June but it wasnt supposed to be on iTunes until the 12th, so I dont really know why it was put up there even earlier.
Maybe it was one of those things that they just did, but didnt announce so if people found it, they found it, and if not, there would be some kind of announcement/release about it on the 12th. Dunno but Im happy its out
I'm listening to "Because I am a Wife" and I'm wondering is this a song that was replaced with "Women" in The Pirate Queen?? Does anyone know who wrote this song/what it's from?

@emilyfaye48 i think so. because 'because i am a wife' was cut after chicago and 'woman was introduced on broadway. though i am not sure that it was the replacement. because i think the songs are at different places in the show if my memory serves me right.

after listening to it a few more times I think Because I am A Wife comes when Grace is deciding to marry to bring the clans together and she know's she's giving up the sea. I think I'm just going off listening to the Pirate Queen recording and reading the plot summary on wikipedia so yeah. anyone else know better than I?
in any event I'm absolutally in love this whole album!!!

"Because I Am a Wife" was originally placed right before the "trouble at Rockfleet" scene, when the English come after Grania O'Malley. In the scene, her husband Donal stumbled in drunk (supposedly on their anniversary). His father came in to tell him the English were attacking some distance off, and when Grania got ready to go with them, Donal shoved her to the ground and told her to stay put. She originally sang "Wife" here, and the women of the clan came in at the end to tell her that the English were attacking THERE, coming for her instead of for the men.
Partway through the Chicago run, they replaced "Wife" with "The Woman That I Am," which had the same tune but different (and, IMO, inferior) lyrics. For the Broadway run they dropped the song entirely because (so I heard) they thought that, as a woman of action, Grania would fight instead of standing around singing about it. I liked "Woman" okay but was sorry to see "Wife" go.
I think the final version of the show had about one line sung here before the women came in. "Woman" didn't replace it because that song came much earlier in Act I (though it was a replacement as far as being the big, belty song from Act I, I guess).

Just got it last night. I haven't had much time to listen to it all yet, but the few tracks I have listened to so far are great. I love her voice so much.
