Re: ALAYM--loved their performance of this at her last Birdland concert, but I hope they do something completely new instead. :) (That's assuming the reference to "musical support" means what I hope it means.)
So I was going over some of the Millennium Stage "Broadway Today and Tomorrow" performances on the Kennedy Center website and heard in today's performance with SJB that her album should be in stores on or around April 1.
That may change, but its the first date we've heard and it's straight from her mouth. Just in case anyone was interested. =)
She's mentioned recording "Making Good", Deborah Abramson's "Gotta Start Small", and "Never Neverland" (I believe). One of the songs she sang at Millennium Stage tonight is apparently going to be on there as well; I'm not sure about the title but it was one of Paul Loesel's songs.
That last bit about Loesel is interesting, Changinandhow. When I first read your comment I had seen only part of the performance and was thinking it might be "Invention" which was pretty funny or the duet that goes "that's just the natural order of things" which I thought was beautiful too.
But I saw the rest and the song appearing on SJB's album is "Life Starts Clapping" by the poet Hafiz. Its a lovely little song that uses a different sound from Stephanie than we might be used to. So far it seems like a good range; I'm excited to hear what else will be on the record.
"Life Starts Clapping"
Wherever God lays His glance Life starts Clapping.
The Myriad Creatures grab their instruments And join the Song.
Whenever love makes itself known Against another Body
The Jewel in the eye starts To
Dance.
-Hafiz
Here is the link if others would like to see the performances by SJB or Megan Hilty, Leslie Kritzer, etc., from "Broadway: The Third Generation." Millennium Stage perfromance archives
I saw her in "Funny Girl" and it's the first time I've seen the show work since Streisand/Hines did it on Broadway. I look forward to seeing her work in the future.
I really liked the Hafiz piece; she also apparently recorded another of the songs from that performance for her CD. It's the earlier piece about the woman who is asked out on a second date. Very fast and a bit tongue-twistery. Can't remember the name of it, but it's fun (though I liked the Hafiz song better).
So far, it looks like a pretty eclectic mix for Stephanie's CD. Wonder if it'll be self-titled (or if she'll go with something like "Much Joy").
The second song from the Millenium Stage performance that will be on the cd is "Invention." It's the fast and tongue-twistery one that bardolator mentioned.
I wish I could go back to college. Life was so simple back then. - Kate Monster.
"Who here feels like they have no idea what they're doing?" - George, Grey's Anatomy
Any word on the album? It supposedly comes out on or around April 1 if we go by what Mrs. Block said at the Kennedy Center. But it seems like the release might be pushed back if there is no news. Unless it is common for Broadway artists to release albums without much advertising?
Apparently Dolly Parton updated a blog and said she got into the studio with SJB to record "I Will Always Love You." I'd be interested to hear that!
I saw her do some of her songs at the Kennedy Center on February 4th and they were amazing!! She is soo talented and was so sweet after the show and signed stuff for me and a bunch of other people! Can't wait for the CD!
I really like it and she looks great. I pre-ordered mine at $13.99 while they were still fiddling with the price. I look forward to hearing this collection of songs.
