Does anyone have any information regarding the release of the original cast album for THE STORY OF MY LIFE?
I saw it last night and, in a rush, forgot to ask at the souvenir stand if/when one is coming out.
While I agree with many on this post that the plot of the show is somewhat depressing and ambiguous, the music is, at points, heart-stopping. I've had tears in my eyes just thinking about songs like "The Butterfly," and I really, really need it (and the rest of the musical) in my iTunes ASAP.
What a remarkable production! So small, so understated, and yet so moving, inspirational, and unforgettable. If you love Broadway or theater on any level, you've got to see this show.
It's too early for anyone to decide to invest money in making the cd at this point. But, sadly, I wouldn't hold your breath.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I'd also love to get a cast recording of this show. I think the score is outstanding.
By the way, it's not because the show may be doing poorly at the box office (is it still? we'll see...) that there's no chance of a cast recording. Look at High Fidelity: that ran for a little over a week and they released a cast recording.

I believe (and I don't know the full story here) it was only made because the producers decided to sink a whole lot of money they knew they weren't going to make back into it.
Hated the show, loved the performances and enjoyed alot of the music. It played like an extended version of the last 10 minutes of Sunday In The Park With George. I kept expecting Will Chase to say "White. A blank page or canvas. So many possibilities."
If this show reminded people of SUNDAY (and since SUNDAY is so brilliant), then I don't understand why more people aren't loving this. It was not ripped off from SUNDAY...if there are any similarities, it is purely coincidence.
According to ushers, the show has been sold out since Thursday night. Having said that, it's Valentine's weekend, so I'm sure ALL shows are doing well.
A lot, too, will depend upon the reviews. I hope they're good. I don't think this show is perfect, but it has some beautiful moments, particularly in the songs. That's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a CD.

That's what I was wondering. I love SITPWG. So that makes me even more excited for this show.
HIGH FIDELITY recorded an album because they believed it might have a shot at a regional life, something that is more likely to happen if a cd is recorded because regional theatres can listen to the show before signing on.
This show, more than likely, won't have a very long regional life.
I though "Sunday In The Park with George" was the worst musical I've seen in the past year (not a fan of the Sondheim atonalities) but "The Story of My Life" was something else--probably my favorite musical in recent memory, next to "Spring Awakening" and "Rent". Sure, the musical works with a more simple premise and less bells and whistles, but the soulful sensibility of the story, depth of characterization and transcendent chemistry were complemented by a riveting and memorable score. I really do hope a cast recording does come out!
JS....you have me perplexed....and I have no idea what to do with your opinion. Often I know how to take someone's opinion based on the other shows they like or dislike and how those match up with my own likes and dislikes!
I LoVE SITPWG and SA; but despised Rent....hmmm...still leaves SOML as a question mark for me...which isn't bad! Seeing it Tuesday night....time will tell.

It's funny because I would categorize Rent and Spring Awakening as smaller shows with fewer bells and whistles which would make Story of My Life ... Company.
How about Amour, Triumph of Love, and The Cape Man? Three other flops that were recorded and eventually released.
True Cape Man didn't get a physical release, but it makes you wish that more labels would take some of the less successful shows and just do iTunes/digital releases at least.
