I know this probably belongs in the off-topic forum, but since this potentially affects travelers into the city to see theater and not everyone checks the off-topic forum, I’m posting here.
So as long as it’s the cheaper option (for someone with checked luggage like me), I usually use Super Shuttle. I simply cant beat $20 each way from/to the airport even if it takes longer to get to my destination.
Anyway, I was checking my checking account tonight and saw that I’ve been refunded for both my Super Shuttle ride from the airport on Friday and also my returning ride to the airport on the 11th. When I checked the SuperShuttle app, I saw that both rides were now listed as past rides. So I called and was told that they no longer service New York City. When I asked the reason why, the representative said something vague about lacking the internal capacity to continue to service New York.
So then I checked Lyft and they still appear to be servicing LaGuardia at least. But when I checked Uber they are not servicing LaGuardia anymore although they still be appear to be servicing JFK.
Anyone know what is going on? A quick internet search only revealed that Uber/Lyft won a ruling against the city over restrictions on empty vehicles cruising recently.

I don't know what you were checking but I have no trouble booking a pickup at LGA with Uber right now. (Maybe they were overwhelmed tonight if that's when you checked, since a zillion people are coming back into the city tonight obviously.)
As long as we are on the subject however, you may be interested in Via, which is an Uber-like company that is heavily oriented to shared rides. They now have a flat shared ride for $15 from LGA. check ridewithvia.com for details. (I use via in the city sometimes, but not from LGA. I prefer the bus/subway connection, but I'd try Via.

Oh. Wow. Thanks for this. I wonder why the Uber app says they’re no longer servicing LGA. I would imagine that will mean Lyft will do more surge pricing for LGA.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I’ve already downloaded the Via app and signed up for an account. Unless I’m missing something, you can’t schedule a future ride, but that’s okay. I’ll be using this on Friday. Thanks again. $15. Much cheaper than the almost $70 Lyft was quoting me for Friday.

what about (its been a while) i think it was called Go Shuttle that operates similarly to super shuttle, are they still around?
was actually planning to use super shuttle in a few weeks, normally i do subway from JFK, but always get worried on the return journey as I have missed a flight before.

Thanks all. Lots more options than I was aware of!! I plan on trying Via tomorrow since it’s the cheapest, but goairportshuttle.com also looks promising.

When I heard that Super shuttle or shutting down in LAX I was not surprised. I would always take it from my home in Long Beach. Getting there was usually not a problem. Getting home (even though I had a reservation) was a nightmare. I would usually have to wait between the hour to two hours past my reservation time. Often they would tell me my shot of us coming only to return to sell that once and I could pick you up after all. The last couple times I noticed these buses Flyaway the way that we’re leaving. Turns out it’s nine dollars to and from Long Beach.
It is express from LAX to Long Beach. Right now it’s the best deal. I take Uber to the Long Beach airport but to LAX is 50 or $60.Many of the locations of stops so I don’t know how long it will continue to be coming to Long Beach. It has always amazed me how expensive it is to get from LGA to Times Square area since it is less than 10 miles. I have used Super Shuttle and it was ok if you had plenty of time to get to airport. This is why I try to fly into JFK or Newark when I visit NYC so I have train options which are much cheaper.

Posted: 1/3/20 at 9:43amI ended up booking with goairportshuttle.com because Via limits you to one bag and I tend to pack like I’m never coming home again (especially when I come to NYC). It came to $45.17 each way before I add my tip. Still cheaper than estimates I was getting from Uber, Lyft and Taxi estimates.

I'm cheap.
From LGA, I grab the local Q48 bus from the airport and head to Flushng. I'll buy a weekly Metro card at the airport.'
Once at Roosevelt and Main, it's a few blocks to the YMCA on Northern Avenue.
Then, it's the 7 train - and weekend construction shuttles - to Times Square to see the shows.

I take the bus/subway from LGA to Times Square(Q70 and E). $2.75 and under an hour.

like I said before, I too use the train from JFK to midtown, but only tried it back to the airport once and missed my flight, so i get nervious on the return trip, but will try this time and give my self an extra hour just to be safe. There are also buses to port authority but I;ve never tried those.

In reality, you're just as likely to get stuck in traffic while using a car as you are to get stuck on the subway/train.

The MTA's new Q70 bus is actually pretty good if you don't have too much luggage (so maybe not for you, Miles). Comes pretty frequently, and gets you a free transfer to a bunch of subway trains. Depending on traffic, it's often the quickest way to Midtown, or at least takes a comparable amount of time, for $2.75.

Update on the shuttle service I picked above. Flight arrived hour late, but still arrived and had bags before 2. Waited over hour for shuttle. Apparently, due to SuperShuttle closing, this service has been inundated. Full van. Been in van an hour and only dropped off one party so far. It is Friday rush hour. Worried I may miss my 6:00 dinner reservation before The Sound Inside tonight.
I’ll use it for return trip to LGA on the 11th since it’s prepaid, but I probably wouldn’t do it again. While I was waiting, I checked Lyft ($70 - 80+) and Uber. Lyft was ridiculous, but Uber wasn’t that much more than this service and I’d be at my hotel probably 90 minutes ago.

Are you talking about the subway or the Long Island Railroad? I'd recommend the LIRR out of Penn Station over the subway even though it costs a little more. The trains are on a set schedule to Jamaica/AirTrain and it's easier to manage luggage on those trains as well.

I second the LIRR recommendation, for trips both to and from JFK. You've got to take the AirTrain between JFK and Jamaica regardless and while it is more expensive than the Subway, there are no other stops along the way (some trains may have 1-2, but I've definitely done it "express" many times). LIRR is also an option going to/from Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.
I come from Boston so I almost always just take Amtrak, but like yankeefan, if I fly I avoid LGA like the plague.
