It's too late now, but I'd rather see Beth Leavel as Reno. I think she'd be more believable as a nightclub singer having a second career as an evangelist than Sutton Foster, who reads about 25 on stage. Beth would bring down the house with that voice, and she's freaking hilarious to boot.
Beth is a true belter. Sutton Foster is one of those mixy-nasal belters. It's a very contemporary and youthful sound to me, and I can't see (or hear) her putting across "I Get a Kick Out of You".
Ah well. Once it gets "The Roundabout Treatment" I'm probably not going to want to see it anyway.

I keep hearing Gavin Creel for Billy. This is the guy who played him in the original production.

His name is William Gaxton and in his time, he was the male God of Broadway (his real name was Arturo Antonio Gaxiola.) Does he look like Gavin Creel? He was 43 at the time.

Harry Connick, Jr. would be better suited for the role (and boy, could he knock those jazzy Porter songs out-of-the-park.

Perhaps teamed with Nathan Lane, who should be free by then.....

Here's another little treasure from the original run:

Here's Gaxton with his co-star from the original production, Victor Moore (and Marilyn Miller).

The role of Reno Sweeney requires a personality with a lot of charm and charisma, someone to push corny jokes over the top.

Sutton has about as much charisma as a traffic light. Her blandness, coupled with Kathleen the Disaster Marshall sets this up to be another Roundabout nightmare.

Kathleen Marshall, please don't screw this up!!!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I am almost excited about this. My attitude towards Marshall directing is tentative at best. Great work on Pajama Game and she almost had it with Tow Gentlemen of Verona, but she's too inconsistent and too quick to settle for mediocrity in both her direction and choreography.

When I first read the headline I thought "Oh, she'd make a great Hope" and then read that she was Reno. As other people have mentioned I just cannot see her as Reno. I see more of a Mary Testa in that role.

I like Sutton Foster, but I don't think she has enough energy to play to the back of the house. Reno needs to blow the roof off with "Blow Gabriel Blow" and "Anything Goes".

Personally I would have rather seen La Chanze attempt the role.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Although she's moved on to her Country music career I'd like to see Laura Bell Bundy play Hope Harcourt. There's one part in the show where Hope is upset and she says, "And now it's raining" and I think she'd say that line brilliantly.

Sutton Foster may not be a great beauty, but she does happen to clean up nicely with the right costumes, wigs, and makeup. She is a true triple threat, and perfect for a classic musical, like "Anything Goes". Not that I completely agree with that "Give the Tonys Back to Broadway" campaign, but it is nice to see a devoted Broadway actress take on the role. Not Catherine Zeta-Jones or Reba McEntire wouldn’t have been wonderful, but as an aspiring actor, it's nice to know that you can stick to mainly theatre and still have a shot at one of these classic roles in a major Broadway revival. Sutton Foster is a very rare case, but it’s possible.

And she should never EVER let anyone use the photo again that accompanies the announcement on this site. She looks like a German dairymaid in that hideous, casual photo, flat hair and no make-up. (All I could think was "Who is doing her publicity?")
