Posted: 2/11/07 at 1:35amIt'll be interesting to see what he does with this. The poster looks like the standard type poster, at least compared to the revival. I wonder if it will be more stylized or more of a straight forward production. I think either would work, but they also have their faults.

Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:25amReally? This sort of looks fan-made- just from the weird appearence of the "Johhny Depp" type at the top. It just doesn't look right for some reason....

Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:55amI like the idea of the ad, but I don't like the font they used for writing "Sweeney Todd." It just doesn't look right.

It's real. It was in Variety. Films that want to be blockbusters announce the beginning of filming, such as Dreamgirls, King Kong, Harry Potter, Spider Man, etc.
And - it was already posted in the "Sweeney Todd Begins Principal Photography" thread.
And - it's not a poster by any means. It's simply a 2-page advertisement.

It may not the poster, but this is the actual logo they are using on letterhead and other promotional items as of now.

"Who is Christopher Lee playing?"
I had heard on this site in another post that he was playing Jonas Fogg. I don't think it's been confirmed on the character he's playing, but that's what I heard. I think Anthony Stewart Head should be Fogg.
There is a chance that this could wind up being the teaser poster for the film, the poster early on, but I think the final poster should have shots of Depp, Carter, Rickman, Cohen, and maybe Spall and Lee with the razor at the bottom with blood on it.

Posted: 2/11/07 at 5:00pmIf one of my students handed this in as their graphic design solution, I'd give it a C. It is a perfectly average looking logo and the tracked out typography used on Depp's name has been a trend that's come and gone twice. I hope they use something more exciting and (no pun intended) cutting edge for the actual film promotions.

Blood alone just puts it in the same category as third string slasher movies. And they better make sure people know it's a musical - or maybe not...

Posted: 2/11/07 at 6:29pmthe simple fact that in the credits it lists music and lyrics by stephen sondheim and based on the broadway musical by stephen sondheim and hugh wheeler reveals that it's a musical.

To me, it seems the simple fact that Sondheim and Wheeler only appear in those little credits reveals that they're trying to hide the musical aspect, at least for now. Those names are only there because they have to be...it's not exactly trumpeting them anything to anyone except those who are looking very hard. Now of course I understand this is very early marketing and they may well play up the fact that it's a musical later on, but this ad certainly doesn't "reveal" anything or make a point that it's based on the famous musical source material.

I'm sure this is going to be good. I'm a huge fan of Burtons work, and Johnny is always bringing light to a piece.
The ads a nice start.
