does anyone know when the New Group's production of Sweet Chairty will go on sale?
Subscriber tickets go on sale tomorrow (7/21). Are there any subscribers here? Have you seen a list of performance dates? I'm trying to figure out if this show will be running when I'm in town. Thanks!

Thanks a lot! Looks like they're planning on closing before the Christmas/New Year rush, even if they extend a week.
Any word on when tickets go on sale to non-subscribers?

Thank Esther, I am a subscriber and never got that email, when did you get it? Come to think of it, I have not received any emails from them in a while.
It looks like Emily Padgett is in the cast! Perhaps as Nickie or Helene? As well as Paloma Garcia Lee!
Well Helene is always played by a black woman, so unless this production is backwards I doubt they will cast a white woman in a traditionally black role.
Who knows, that one poster insisted that Padgett would make a terrific Nabulungi!! I'd love to see what she'd do with Helene!! (This is a joke. I realize it can be taken seriously.) In all seriousness, thank you Jay, I forgot which role was typically played by a black woman, which is why I suggested both roles. So, perhaps Nickie then!
I'm not familiar with Sweet Charity at all. But I'm confused. Isn't this sort of a big production? Why would they be doing it in such a tiny theater? And with such big names? Is this a pre-Broadway run perhaps? But it's not an untried property, so why would a pre-Broadway run be necessary? I'm so confused.

Confused as well because the confines of that space couldn't suit a full fledged Broadway musical, so if/when it moves to Broadway, I'd assume they'd wanna flesh it out a bit more? Unless they're going with a totally stripped down version?

the production concept is apparently very intimate and very stripped down, but yes it is essentially a pre-broadway try-out
I am a huge fan of this show, but it also seems to be a show that never really works without Fosse (his staging and choreography). I've seen "video" of the 1987 revival (largely a recreation of the original) with three different Charities, and it really is a stunning production. Of course the show really is Fosse's--he hired Coleman and Fields to do the score, and then when he found writing the script difficult played the demo and persuaded Neil Simon to take over. That said, I am a fan of Bergasse (I believe he's choreographing?) and his choreography surely will be better than Cilento's for the last revival--ironic as Cilento was such a great Fosse dancer.

There are commercial producers attached to this production. Assuming all goes well, this will be a pre-Broadway tryout. The concept and designs are very much "intimate" and "stripped down," so it works. No clue why McCollum chose New Group for the tryout. Only he can answer that.
I think the most exciting thing about this production is how different it'll be. I imagine a more grittier Charity, and that excites me. Her life sucks, but she's truly an optimist. It's going to be so fascinating to not only see Sutton, but see how her Charity interacts with this new world the New Group is creating.
I just don't even know where they'd put the orchestra. Such a strange choice of space. I kind of would loved to have seen this at 42West, but Trip of Love is still going.
So if this does transfer they're going to want a Jacobs/Schonfeld type house?

If they've started rehearsal, shouldn't we be hearing a cast announcement soon?
isn't this being planned as a scaled down version?? I wouldn't expect a big cast,

A Playbill article said the subscriber tickets were available a full month before the general public. So probably around 8/21.

I didn't say a big cast, just curious who's in it.
It's playing at the Courtyard theater, right? I'm assuming they'd really want Circle In the Square if they transfer.

I am horrible at predicting these things but with such a short run I'm afraid all the tickets will be gone by the time subscribers finish purchasing tickets early. Do you get to see the seating chart when you purchase? Any update on how well this has been selling?
