NBC is first, and it's MIXED. Sounds more positive than I expected at first, but near the end calls it "a mixed bag lacking symbolic resonance."

NEGATIVE from Theatermania. http://www.theatermania.com/broadway/reviews/the-cherry-orchard_78799.html
"this approach has resulted in a series of half choices that only serve to dilute the play and keep the audience at arm's length."
NEGATIVE from AMny which somehow gives it two stars in spite of what they actually say. http://www.amny.com/entertainment/the-cherry-orchard-review-diana-lane-stars-in-disjointed-revival-1.12462906
"Godwin’s production is disjointed and wholly ineffective."

Ugh... "That makes the thudding failure of Karam's new version of The Cherry Orchard all the more deflating."

"Godwin’s “Orchard” isn’t one of those nights in the theater where each actor appears to be performing in another production."

"Yet the show never finds its footing, and Karam, director Simon Godwin and the cast frequently seem to be working at cross-purposes. The result is a confused, flat and finally listless production."

NEGATIVE from NYT. Brantley really ripped the whole show a new one.

Ouch! Maybe I SHOULD take my bf (a serious Chekhov enthusiast) to this, just for the entertainment value of his commentary afterward...
Whoa, I can't remember the last time I read such a negative review from Brantley. This production sounds like a real embarrassment for the Roundabout.
Ado, as enormously disappointing as this production is (and I realllllly hated it), i
dont know that it crosses to so-bad-it's-good territory other than perhaps in the truly baffling third act. My advice: save yourself.
Between this and holiday inn roundabout seems like a wreck.
This production commits the ultimate show business crime. It's not so bad that it's delicious and it's not any good either. It's simply boring and pointless.
How are they going to do pull quotes? Brantley sounds super scathing all the way through and so do many other critics.
There's no law saying they have to use pull quotes. Non profit doesn't concern themselves quite so much with its built in audience.
Overall, I'm not surprised, but didn't think they'd be this bad.....but I don't disagree.

I respect Brantley going straight for the jugular...

It was pretty bad. All six of us from my Roundabout friends did not like it at all. Didn't need confirmation.
It's a misguided production in every sense, and even more disappointing considering the pedigree of everyone involved.
ROUNDABOUT has had a VERY mixed couple of years... I still want my money back from OLD TIMES...
They had an extremely above average season last season, but, yes, Roundabout is rarely consistent in its quality.
Well, last season was off to a bumpy start with Old Times and Therese Raquin. But it did get better with Noises Off, She Loves Me, and Long Day's Journey Into Night.
What is Roundabout doing at Studio 54 after Holiday Inn closes? It's odd how they announced 2 future shows for the American Airlines but none for S54.

Saw it again. Let me say this. The play runs long. There are some unnecessary scenes, that drag on too long.
But there are some moments that I believe people should find noteworthy. It's not all bad. It doesn't know what it wants to be and that is true, but overall, I liked it. I know I'm in the minority there.
The actors, Harold Perrineau's Lophakin is breathtaking, he steals the show in a gut wrenching act 3. Diane Lanes performance has come a long way since previews.
John Glover is Charming, and Celia Kenan Bolger has done great things here.

Saw his trainwrecj yesterday. No direction, no pacing, no chemistry. If I hadn't paid $25 for Hiptix I'd have been quite pissed.
A talented cast and a wondeful story wasted. Quite sad. :/
Jeffrey's post made me curious about Old Times, so I trekked over to Wikipedia...
And like...how on Earth does a piece like that work at all? Is that existential absurdist theatre, or something? I think I'd be so confused if I saw that stuff play out on a stage.
