I second James Monroe Iglehart as the Lion. Also, I would really love to see Taraji P. Henson in this somehow, but I don't know how FOX would feel about a star of Empire going to do an NBC event.

She should be since I am sure the huge success of Empire had some influence on this decision.
Does Lester Holt have a young daughter who can play Dorothy?
Oh so the crackers believe the hit black show was the reason the black musical was chosen? I wonder what would have happened if a Latino show would have been the hit...I guess the go to classic would have been West Side Story?

Darling. You know as well as I do the ratings numbers talk the loudest and a HIT BLACK MUSICAL SHOW WAS THE BREAKOUT SMASH OF THE SEASON.
How very racist of me to suggest that "had some influence on the this decision."
Yes it was extremely WHITE of you to point that out! :-P

Hey, I didn't suggest Eric Stonestreet for The Lion.
I'm glad you didn't...you've done enough damage. LOL.

You should be all up in Harvey Fierstein's grill, if you ask me.
I'm excited for this!
And I love the pairing with Cirque. I can already picture the Tornado Ballet and the flying monkey raid ...

Taye Diggs for Black Fiyero?
Empire is a FOX show. NBC has nothing to do with that. They have been deciding for awhile, and this show was always in the running. Great show, I hope it's well done.

Yes, it's really true that networks are never influenced by what's a hit and connecting with huge audiences on other networks.
I know, that Peter Pan story and the whole message there was totes connecting on EVERY network before it aired.
Nope.
Didn't Michael Riedel allude to a re-working of a Classic Broadway musical, with the Cirque Du Soleil involved to be done in the Lyric Theatre?
Cirque Du Soleil are no doubt kings of the strip in Vegas, but have been desperate to break New York and so far have seemed to have failed.
Hurrah! But oh god, i hope they don't screw up the casting for NBC's version like always.
There is only ONE person to play Glinda, and it ain't Audra.
It's... wait for it... MISS DIANA ROSS!

The wiz is a fascinating and I think a gutsy
Choice
Which is unusual for tv nw executives
I'm excited to to see what they put together
Is it clear if the broadcast will be the Broadway revival? Or are they 2 separate things?

I am so glad that they made the right decision and went with The Wiz!
Now, it's all down to casting, next! I hope they cast a young Dorothy like it's supposed to be. If they don't it's fine, but it would be far more interesting with a young powerhouse lead.
My Casting Choices:
Dorothy- China Anne McClain (if contracts don't conflict)
Scarecrow- Taj Mowry
Tin Man- Taye Diggs
The Lion- Tituss Burgess
Aunt Em- ?
Glinda- Audra McDonald or Vanessa Williams
The Wiz- ?
Evillene- Queen Latifah or Patina Miller
Addaperle- Raven Symone
Here's My Casting Choices:
Dorothy: Keke Palmer
Scarecrow: Tituss Burgess
Tin Man: Norm Lewis
The Lion: James Monroe Iglehart
Aunt Em/Glinda: Queen Latifah
The Wiz: Eddie Murphy
Evillene: Vanessa Williams
Addaperle: Darlene Love
Wayne Brady as the Tin Man!

For the next few years, Chadwick is gonna be all Marvel. Doesn't his stand alone film start shooting sometime this year? I'm sure the schedule would conflict.
PLEASE, let's get some music legends in this. I'm sure more would be willing to depending on how they're designing the show. Smokey Robinson? Lenny Kravitz? Diana Ross? YES. And also, Raven Symoné needs to be snuck in there somehow.

^Addaperle for Raven! It is Raven's part! It has to be!

I can see Deniece Williams as Glinda, and a good one at that.
