Diana Ross looked like she escaped from the nuthouse in the Wiz movie LOL. Plus the way Oz was depicted as some weird trippy alternate reality version of NYC made it seem as if she was cracked out LOL

She did! She cries, she shrieks, she gnashes her teeth and she bugs her eyes out. It's quite an unfortunate performance. If you compare it to her work in LADY SINGS THE BLUES it's as if it's two completely different women. Say what you will about LADY as a biography, but Ross' performance in it is great and she deserved her Oscar nomination.

Yeah, I'm planning to get a hold of that movie and Mahogany. However , judging from your description it seems that Diana's acting Isn't really the problem here - seems like it had more to do with the directing and screenwriting that produced that bizzarre performance lol.
seeing MJ before he decided to bleach himself as the scarecrow was a little tear inducing I have to admit

But, when Dorothy is as big as the lion? It's kind of hard to think she would need any protection. I rather have a tall Dorothy than a bad singing Dorothy.
"
I will give Di-Di this. She does have great legs and they look fantastic in "Everybody Rejoice".
Is Cirque still even involved in this broadcast? I feel like I haven't seen one reference to them in any of the marketing.

"Yes. Cirque is heavily involved with this. Fatima robinson said during the q&a that there will be 6 acrobats. They will be a part of the kalidah scene, the flying monkey scenes, the tornado, and the emerald city scene.

Then why haven't they advertised that?

They have. On all the posters it credits Cirque de Soleil with Special Acrobatic Effects. They have also been mentioned in press releases. If you click on any of the numerous articles posted here on BWW they are mentioned.

The television spots have been pretty minimal. Pushing the talent then the producers.

I really, really love Amber Riley's, Ne-Yo's, David Alan Grier's, Stephanie Mills' and Common's costumes. The other costumes are okay. I still think Glinda looks like a lump of shredded wheat - - - and I HATE Latifah's "Wiz" costume.

"For me, i love david, amber, ne-yo, uzo, stephanie, common, mary and elijah's costumes the most. Uzo looks beautiful with her costume. And with the led lights attached to it, it will look even more stunning. Shanice's costume is just ok. It could have been a little better. But i love the silver slippers
Stephanie Mills is the only one who looks like a character from the story. She looks like an Aunt Em there, and it's perfect.
Adaperle looks good, but I wish they'd cast older, more in line with the Witch of the North in the novel and the stage musical. And Common's gatekeeper costume is fine.
The rest, I don't care for. Too fancy, not lived in. The Scarecrow is too scary and bizarre. Glinda is a glittery hairball, and Evilene is a hot mess of a haute couture misfire.
I can see a lot of misguided money in that photo, and not a lot of characters from a story.

*cue Teddy coming in to defend the costumes on a production he claims not to be on the payroll of*
It's curious that this is the only thread he posts in.
The photo looks pretty good. The costumes here are not as terrible as I feared but some of them could've been better designed.
I miss the characters.

Are your desperate never ending attempts to defend a broadcast that hasn't even happened yet really that necessary???

After watching everything posted, my analysis seems to be this: everyone in it is very talented. It's gonna sound fantastic. However, the design leaves a lot to be desired. As many have echoed, it simply looks like the Munchkin's WOZ--it has nothing distinct about it. The Wiz film as it is, which leaves a lot to be desired, at least had a distinct feel to it. This feels very Disneyfied in a way that seems commercial and very cookie-cutter. So while I wish these design choices were a lot stronger, I think there's a lot to look forward to. But let's be real, even if it was a $h~tshow, I'd still watch it.
