Ne-Yo sounds great in the little bit of "Slide Some Oil to Me"! I'm interested to see how all of this will play out.
For F sake people, it's pretty obvious Teddy isn't a shill for this production. No production professional would every reply in the way teddy has to some people on here. You have Carlos doing a witch hunt after Teddy (who is probably a teenager) just cause he is excited to see The Wiz and is hoping for the best. Stop acting like idiots.
I have no fond memories of the original production of the Wiz and even worse memories of the film but there is something drawing me to this version as if they are finally going to legitimize the piece. Love the theatricality of the promos which are far superior to the looks of the previous Peter Pan and The Sound of Music broadcasts. This one is going for in your face fake stage theatricality like a 70's variety show, spot lights blazing and ready to hit the procenium for the promised post broadcast tour. I remember the Broadway show having an embarrassing book, some fun songs, dancing and great vocal performances - the book left no room for great acting. Eaze On Down The Road broke big at the discos and Home became every little girls go to belt song. I'm hoping this version is the visual and vocal delight it promises to be - going in with very low expectations which means The Wiz has the greatest chance of being the best of these God awful broadcasts to date. The bar is practically on the floor so things are looking promising for Dorothy and her clan.
Count me in on being excited for this one! The sheer amount of talent they have in this cast is wonderful and I like that the entire look of the event, while we've seen it before in other places, is still better than that awful movie version which I won't talk about. Will this be the strange, bizarre and shockingly unique looking Broadway production from 1975? Of course not, I don't think that was ever the intent. What I'm seeing is an entertaining live musical production that everyone looks like they're having fun and that's what counts. So, December 3, here we come!

I don't like how overproduced it sounds

Shanice Williams's "Home" is now streaming on Spotify: https://mobile.twitter.com/SonyBroadway/status/669565060155629569
Curious it's from Masterworks, since the soundtrack is being done by Broadway Records. Guess Shanice has a Sony contract??
If this is the arrangement for the Broadcast I'm actually pretty happy with it.
I did like that clip of Ne-Yo's Slide Some Oil To Me....but then again, I am a big Ne-Yo fan so I may be a bit biased on that end. I also like Shanice's rendition of Home.
All snarkiness aside, I will put aside all my reservations and watch this with an open mind, as if this is the first ever production of this show.
Maybe it will wind up better than expected.
So with that being said, I will stop picking on teddy...I have to admit he reminds me a bit of myself when I was younger and would get excited about something.

Meron has a message for the contributors of this thread!
It's cool that they saw the original production at the Majestic (way before Phantom swooped in) and admired it for what it was.

"You Can't Win" was written for the show, but it was written for a different scene, wasn't it?

I think it was meant to be sung by the Winkies.
lol funny that they're telling us that You Can't Win was written for the show but was cut, when several people on the board already mentioned that fact. nice try though.

Not to mention of all the things they could have addressed from the "theater chat boards," THAT'S what they chose to defend.
So they've been reading all the things we dislike and are defending something that's pretty minor. And not the plethora of things that are major complains about production on a fundamental level, from casting to costumes to sets. Very strange.
I am loving this "Making Of" special.
Ooooooooo a brief flash of our Wiz Head!

The poppy costumes look beautiful and their dance scene looks amazing.
SNAFU is the stage design of the music this year designed that way so it COULD transfer to an actual theatre? Seems it's all one stage with automated set pieces and a fly system.
That seems to have been the plan. Unlike Sound of Music or Peter Pan, They built a proscenium stage. Peter Pam was a 360 degree set with the cameras mainly in the center. Heard rumors it may play in Chicago before moving to Broadway.

I am a sucker for "The Making of...." specials in general. This one too...
I am really looking forward to this production.. Peter Pan was such a bad choice and this one IMO is so much better...Wishing the best to all involved.

Wow! After that "Making Of" Special, I'm even MORE excited!
At first, I disliked Queen Latifah's Wiz look, but after seeing it in action and and on camera, I can safely say that I really like it, and it looks like she's going to do a really good job in the role!
I loved the little bit we saw of the reveal of the Wizard--it seems that "The Wiz" persona is a male, but behind the mask, they're making the true person, a female, which is a decision I support!
I can't wait!

The more I think about Queen Latifah's Wizard, it makes sense. I am also starting to like the whole Ziggy Stardust look.
I couldn't agree more that I am really excited about this production, after watching the making of. The be a lion number sounded incredible. I'm also really digging the staging and use of the LED screens. Once you see it all together, it really does feel like a co-hesive. There was also some terrific energey in some of those numbers as opposed to what ever was going on in peter pan last year.
