I know that newspaper reviews don't have the power they used to, but how on earth is this musical going to go to Broadway after this from Charles McNulty of The L.A. Times:
"If someone had blindfolded me and brought me to this production, I would have assumed that I was watching a performance by a talented and extremely well-funded amateur troupe in residence at an LGBTQ+ community center that was inspired by the series...The setting determines not just the physical environment but the performance style of the show. Everyone is welcome, regardless of how well they can carry a tune."
This show didn't draw flies in Los Angeles. I must have received half a dozen e-mails from CTG begging people to please come and support the show. It was probably the final nail in the coffin for CTG deciding not to program a Taper season for 23-24. It's stunning to me that they're thinking of bringing this to Broadway. Someone must need a tax write off pretty desperately.
