I don't think he'll be bad at all. But every time I think of him I can't help but think of those car commercials that were played rather incessantly when he won.

If it keeps our NY actors employed, by all means, bring him in.

He's got a decent voice, and it's a tiny part. It's not like he is actually taking over a leading role, it's a cameo. Yeesh! If you weren't planning on seeing Grease before then why would you go see it now?

Oh my gosh, GET OVER IT.

He has talent and will play the part fine and maybe sell a few tickets.

It's not like he is playing Iago in a Peter Brook's production of Othello.

He is playing a small part in a commercial show for a commercial audience on Broadway. And the people who see the show will probably love the fact that they can tell their friends that they say an AI winner on Broadway. And Broadway, like it or not, is as commercial as theatre gets.

And, I mean, this show was cast using reality TV. So is it really that big a deal when they cast a winner from the most popular reality show on television?

It's GREASE, not SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. Who gives a crap? The only reason this revival of GREASE exists is because of a reality show anyway.

The "You just don't like him because you're jealous!" arguments are even more pathetic than the people bashing him. Not everyone on this board aspires to star on Broadway (and even if they do, hopefully they'd have higher dreams for themselves than Teen Angel in a bad production of Grease).

Guy comes to Broadway with no practical experience in theater.

Can't dance. Sings pretty well.

Acting is better than many people thought possible.

Really only a name in the Jazz world.

Has the nerve to take a lead role.

And every single person on this site would sell (and many have) their mammas to get front-row tickets for his next show.

They would not, could not let Archuleta just wouldn't ruin Little Night Music!!!! I couldn't bear him in a show of repute. Sure, put him in Grease, but Sondheim? Sondheim is reserved for people who have the emotional width to play the character that Sondheim has created with his amazing musical. Crap, now I'm ranting.

Not everyone on this board has ambitions to act. I am very happy with my career and have been very successful in it as well.

This thread has become absurd. There have been reality shows long before AI. There was the Amateur night at the Apollo, Ted Mack's Amateur Hour, Star Search and many others.

Taylor Hicks is neither going to ruin Broadway or revolutionize it. Get over it people!

I stand by my statement. I love generalizations, too, like when people say someone "Will be" awful in part before they've even gone into rehersals for it.
