Taylor Swift Musical?

Most of her songs are story driven anyway so it could make for a good book and from a marketing perspective Taylor Swift fans would come in droves.

What do you guys think?

It doesn't have to be about her life. A musical about a woman's many failed relationships.

While she has a way with a hook, I find her lyrics for the most part are wholly self-centered, with no part of any blame for any of these failed relationships. So I can't imagine anything remotely deep of a musical.

I think it could happen. Probably as a cheesy one with a superficial plot about relationship drama. I'd rather see Taylor compose her own musical with a completely original score/plot, though. I'm not sure if she's a great playwright, but I do think she's amazing at writing songs - even if the themes of her music can get repetitive, i can't deny her talent.

Ya this has always been my issue with her in all seriousness. I feel there are other artists out there who recognize their own faults, or at least acknowledge them. Adele is one of the best at this. You can fully blame the other person while being involved, too. But "You'll never find another lover like me" is just a turn off, personally. Not just because I'm gay either."

Back to December and Getaway Car are two examples of where she takes the blame.

Most of the general public's opinions are formed by the false narratives of what the media portrays her to be when it's a slow news day. She is an excellent lyricist. If your willing to have such strong opinions, dig a little deeper into her catalog before arriving at conclusions.

I am obviously a fan of Swift. She has 15 years and 7 albums under her belt. She just won Artist of the Decade at the American Music Awards this past weekend, and is the most awarded artist in AMA history. Her latest tour was the highest grossing tour in US history. She is the only artist in history to open with over 1 Million is sales in the opening week for 4 consecutive albums in a row.

Don't diminish her artistic integrity just because you think songs like Shake It Off are what define her as a whole, along with with the worn out opinion that she only writes about her exes. What artist doesn't write about past relationships?

I would at this stage in her life rather have her write a new musical than have a musical about her life story.

I'm a fan of hers so I'm biased. Do I want it? No. Would I see it? Probably.

I agree that she might have an original score in her (though you'd have to get her away from Jack Antonoff and maybe Max Martin). I don't think it would come as naturally as Waitress did to Sara Bareilles but if she really tried, I think her songwriting is stronger than most people give her credit for. I think she'd have to work with an interesting composer because her own music tends to be in a very limited vocal range. I remember looking at the sheet music for one of her early songs and it was like a variation of 3 notes.

Off the top of my head, I think it's tricky that so many of her songs are in second person (addressed to "you". Also, even the more vague songs like "I Did Something Bad" or "Mean" tend to have too many specific details to worked well if forced into a plot. Say what you will about Mamma Mia or even Bat Out of Hell but the lyrics/songs were for the most part general enough that they could function as the plot demanded.
