"I think some of you should maybe be grateful that you have the chance to actually SEE this production."
Unless Catherine Zeta-Jones objects, it will be filmed. Sondheim has allowed Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, Sunday in the Park..., Company and Passion all to be put on video. I know video is not the same as being there, but you'll eventually be able to see it.

It's not exactly that simple. Someone had to put up the money for it. Sondheim doesn't just snap his fingers and get his shows filmed. The money had to come from somewhere. Someone had to be willing to put up thousands of dollars with a full understanding that they will never get back a single penny of their investment. Unless that happens again you won't see Night Music on DVD.

Mmm. Though it does seem like this Night Music production would be a candidate for filming.
What I don't understand is, if Sondheim is rich, why doesn't he put the money up?
Does anyone know when I can buy a ticket without an American Express card?
Nobody here has feet? You want to see the show so badly get standing room. I've been in the balcony and people here exaggerate. I don't have the world's best eyesight and I have never had a problem there, and I was up there as recently as "Grey Gardens".

Copied from Telecharge: "Tickets will go on sale to the general public on October 17."
If the production is good and gets great reviews, tickets will be at a premium and there won't be much in the way of discounts. It's a possibility the show may be filmed/taped but deals for PBS and/or cable Tv showings would have to help underwrite some of the costs.
I am curious abpout the comment: Someone had to be willing to put up thousands of dollars with a full understanding that they will never get back a single penny of their investment.
While I don't think any of the commercially released tapings have reaped huge profits, the basic costs would eventually be recovered through licensing (overseas and here) and video sales.
I think it's a little unfair to compare paying for this as throwing one's money down the sewer.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
and if the show is selling out, the Kerr does have SRO. Which hopefully will only be $25-$30.
