I wanted to sit orchestra level for this, but I don't know If I can splurge THAT much. Jeez.

I may have to eat my words, but I honestly don't think Zeta-Jones will be able to sell out the Kerr the way Craig and Jackman are selling out the Schoenfeld.

The balcony is the worst part, because the rest of the prices are (sadly) almost in line with what other shwos charge. But, that balcony is not even worth $25, let alone $52, considering how awful the site lines are up there.
The only thing I can think of is that they're doing this so that when an $85 discount offer comes out, it seems generous.
I imagine that, at least in previews, they'll have some kind of discount. I don't think either woman will sell the place out at full price, at least not before the reviews come out (and then, only if they're rapturous).

also, weren't those seats about $30 for Grey Gardens?

I paid what they're charging for the balcony to sit in the mezzanine at Grey Gardens. And that wasn't with a discount.

Think about it: if they need to sell every seat at $70 to break even, and they set the price at $70, then if even one person uses a discount, they won't break even.
If they set every seat at $90 and then issue discounts, the people using discounts and the people paying full price will cancel each other out and they'll average $70, making it possible to break even.
Furthermore, they don't know how much people are willing to pay until they ask for it. If nobody is willing to pay that much, they can always lower the price, but they can't raise it later on if they think people will pay more (I know it has happened, but it is very, very rare and very, very risky).

...and adamgreer, you're correct, when an $85 discount code comes out, we will all be so grateful (even though $85 is way more than I prefer to spend for a Broadway show).
I guess I won't be seeing NIGHT MUSIC too many times, unless something more affordable becomes available.

I'm guessing these producers are living at the turn of the last century in Sweden. They must not realize we're in a recession now.
Or, they must think their Zeta-Jones casting is "recession-proof."
Who knows? Maybe she has such a hefty price tag that they had to raise their prices to make a profit.
Either way, somebody's head is buried in the sand.

I know that every show needs to make money, but the rate of ticket inflation on Broadway is out of control. Isn't part of the point of this production how "small" it is? Are we just paying hand over fist to be near CZJ? Ugh.

You are absolutely correct about this, Besty. If this were somewhat affordable, I would probably be seeing it 6 times at least. At these prices, it may only be 2-3 times.

I think the producers can justify the price because they are probably paying Z-Jones $10,000 per week.
Plus Angela Lansbury just won another Tony. And as morbid as it sounds, you know everyone is thinking "Is this going to be her last Broadway appearance?"
On the other hand, scientists are saying that this winter is going to be cold, bitter and snowy because El Nino winds haven't been as warm. I wonder if they are going to have to discount heavily in January.

When has this EVER happened? A show can be doing 12% capacity and producers would still never lower the prices. They would consider that way too embarrassing to admit they made a mistake.

True, but didn't they only lower the prices of their premium tickets?
