Tourbori - So when Marianne2 and I both said something else is afoot (about pushing the closing date up 2 weeks) and you thought it was 'silly' now that this story from Variety reports "Slava's Snowshow" will probably be the next event to take place at the HH do you still think it was silly?http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117992686.html?categoryid=15&cs=1 Puhleez - The pressure was on to get the next show in there... a holiday show. After all it's the time of the year for that. They never did give a crap about the fans. Or the fact that we've been to the show dozens of times and brought tons of people each time, and posted stories keeping the show alive right here on this very board.
It's all about the allmighty dollar. And I'm sorry for the fans who are not able to see the show again during this final week. All I can say to the owners of the HH is "Fi... yeah, fi upon you!"

SLAVA, which isn't confirmed just rumored, is said to be slated to come in in October. The Hayes had the right to kick XAN out if it was losing money (all Broadway theatres do). THAT'S why the show had an Oct 12 closing. The facts are the same: it's closing EARLIER than expected because the box office is not good. Nothing is "afoot" regarding it closing earlier than planned. It's just about money (or lack thereof).
I repeat: I'm just as bummed as everyone else. But let's not think that this is some horrible act brought on by the producers.
"Early shuttering of "Xanadu" was prodded by impending losses that would have been incurred in keeping the musical running. Last week, when nearly every production on the boards saw weekly sale rise, "Xanadu" was one of the few to dip slightly, slipping to $162,616."

Ok... so they announce an Oct 12th closing, and within minutes of that announcement, the stage seats for the 10th-12th all sell out.
There is a $49 discount code out for people to use, and people are going to want to see the show one last time (or for their 1st time) prior to the closing, so you have to figure that the theatre will be pretty full for the remainder of the shows.
Then, out of the blue, the closing date is moved up to the 28th, and the reason given is because of the "economy".
I am sorry... It just doesnt make sense to me.
I understand perfectly that, like they say, "all good things must come to an end", but this was handled very poorly !
I was there tonight for my 2nd, and final performance. I had even more fun this time than the first time. I must say, it was a treat to be able to sit in the very front row the first time, but row J in the orchestra is perfectly fine too because you can see the entire stage and not have to crane your neck to see some of the action. I definitely love Jackie Hoffman better as Calliope than Whoopi. She was just funnier with Mary Testa. I have to say, the theater looked pretty full tonight, unless it is only because people know it's in its final week.
And I feel like a total dork now for the stage door with Cheyenne. I'm just a generally quiet person, so I wasn't yelling at him or talking at him to get his attention. So, when he finally just paid attention to me, it was a tad bit awkward. LOL! Basically, I did the normal hi, and actual eye contact. It definitely was too fan girly though, and I'm a bit embarrassed now because I did not mean to seem like that. Besides that, I guess I should be glad I did not say anything totally stupid.

I'm really bummed I can't believe it's actually closing! Now I know for sure I won't ever get to see it again. Please everyone going on Sunday post a million pictures and reviews!! Thanks to all the fANADUs and the entire cast and crew at the HH! You guys brought joy and spirit to my life for more than a year. My life changed so much thanks to this show and all the people behind it, and it was definitely for the better.
Goodbye Xanadu! I'll love you fuh evah!

That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." Sherie Rene Scott
Unfortunately I can't afford to travel around to see the show in "other productions." I was also a "victim of poor economic contitions." I was recently laid off after working for 21 years at the same company.

I understand that... but down the road who's to say a regional theatre on Long Island, or in NJ might do it when rights become available? Tour's occasionally make a stop in cities very close to NY, as well. :) Here's hoping for New Haven, or the NJPAC!
I did get to go to, and sit on stage for the filming for the Lincoln Center archives. I hope I get to see that some day. Or I can just stay at home and watch one of the 3 bootlegs

I really really hate to have to play "devil's advocate", but some things have to be said. Shows close. All shows. No show runs forever. This show overcame a lot to make it as long as it did. For people to say the producers don't care about the fans simply shows how much they know these producers. These guys are all first-time Broadway producers. I have had the pleasure of meeting and, for a short time, working with all of them. They truly do care about the fans, and to have this garbage spread about them no doubt hurts them. They tried to make this show work, and kept it floating for a very long time when it wasn't making the money it should have been. I love this show, and have made many friends through my experiences, but sadly all good things must come to an end. Instead of being bitter and angry, enjoy the show for the few performances it has left, and anywhere you go, you know you'll always have this roller disco.

You're hurt and you're scared because you doubt your own artistic ability.
Ok, I will bite because I will assume that one of the people that you are referring to as being "bitter and angry" is me...
Are the fans upset that the show is closing? Yes. (although I dont think that anyone is really "bitter and angry")
Obviously, all shows close. That is not the problem.
Closing the show is NOT the problem. The way it was handled is.
Why announce a 10/12 closing date, and then move it up to 9/28, and use the economy as an excuse?
(especially since the ticket sales AFTER the 10/12 closing date was announced were pretty good)
<< They truly do care about the fans, and to have this garbage spread about them no doubt hurts them. >>
What garbage? Personally, and I have stated this before, I think the fans should be upset the least (other than the fact that a show that we all love is closing)
(And btw Wheels... we have spoken numerous times, and you have not always felt the same way. )
How do you feel about the cast of "Xanadu" and the crew of the HH finding out about this AFTER the public did?
You feel the same way about these people that I do. Doesnt it bother you?
Listen... I've stayed away from this board for awhile now (which I created by the way)... and I've been quiet dealing with the closing of the show I've seen more than any other in my life. I am SICK of the "young producer" crap. They are PRODUCERS. Plain and simple. Money was being lost out of THEIR (and investors) pockets so up goes the closing notice.
I ALSO have had the "pleasure" of working with them or as I like to call it "being royally screwed". Anyone remember the fan section that was supposed to come out? Of course you do. I PERSONALLY worked my buns off and actually created it and all I got was a little compensation and "we'll use it soon."
But you see when I "worked" for them, I knew I was being used to shut us fans up but I never turned around 5 months later to say how grateful I am.
I am not bitter or angry the show is closing. Disappointed? Very.
The only thing I'm upset about is the fact that my friends who had 3 WEEKS to find other jobs now only have 5 DAYS. Friends that, as Testing mentioned, had to find out from being online at the particular moment the story was written or by hearing it from me.
Classy.
Call it garbage throwing, call it mudslinging call it as you see it because I'm sure I'll get a nasty email from someone on here but I could care less at this point. I will be there on Sunday to say goodbye to a wonderful cast and crew of a show that made Broadway a little happier for over a year. And THOSE are the people I'm grateful for.
That's all.

Evil Woman: Mary and Jackie LOVED that the house was sold out, and made a funny joke about how packed it was.
Curse Placing: Jackie says "Girl you a menace." Mary shoots two invisible guns up into the air and Jackie says "Like shooting a moose" and Mary responds with "Vote for Me for VP". Hilarious.
Cheyenne in empty auditorium: "Hello? Is anyone here?" Ladies cackle. Mary then says "Yea it's empty." At which point Jackie follows it up immediately with "That's why we're closing Sunday." Audience dies.
Olympus: "Am I the only one up here who gets it people? Come on. Oh, and Clay Aiken's gay." Oh Jackie. Zany.
Witchy-Poo: Mary says "....and let my personality be the star." Audience laughs a little. Mary then sneers at the audience and mouths "Oh f*ck off." Biggest laughs I've ever heard for that show.

If I'm leaving any out for the people who were there tonight (amazing crowd, by the way), please add them!
Yes, tonight's show was amazing...you can totally tell that Mary and Jackie are gonna say whatever they want for the last couple shows. I can't wait to hear what they come up with for the last show!
oh yeah...during the curtain call Mary yelled at the people in the mezzanine to get up and dance. Not sure if they did or not. haha. I know I would have!
