Is Fiddler favored? I think She Loves Me has it."
I fully expect Color Purple or She Loves Me to win, I just meant if I was ranking them in order of likeliness to win I would put Spring above Fiddler...if only it were still open!
HAMILTON, SHUFFLE ALONG, ECLIPSED, and THE COLOR PURPLE have 36 nominations between them. Yaaaaaaas diversity!

i want Daveed to win but I feel like all those nominations will split the vote. Same with Best Actor. i wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton got no acting wins.

Colm Wilkinson and Terrence Mann of Les Miserables were both in the lead actor category, and they split the vote. The Tony went to Robert Lindsay for Me and My Girl."
Same thing happened with Book of Mormon. I don't know, if it doesn't go to Leslie Odom, I'd say Danny Burstein would take it, but Fiddler only got 3 nominations...
I just noticed Saoirse Ronan wasn't nominated! I'm sad about that, but to be quite honest, I'm not sure who I would have replaced. It's a very strong category.

I would say it'll at least win Featured Actress for sure.
If Hamilton wasn't nominated, what do we think would be the favorite? My gut says Waitress, but Bright Star got more nominations (surprisingly).
Well, this is definitely the HamilTONY Awards show. I thought there might be a slight backlash but I am wrong. It is great to see it did get so many nods.
I guess they were trying to be somewhat fair in the nominations; nice that Julian Fellowes got one. And Audra does have six already; maybe her leaving and returning was a factor in their decision. I am seeing SOR and Shuffle on Wednesday so I can see for myself. It is also great Laurie Metcalf got one; but at least they didnt just give out fluff noms to Pacino or Willis just for showing up on Broadway. But yeah, definitely a lot of people missed a nom. This was a tough year; everyone's work was mostly terrific.
I'm seeing LDJIN on Saturday, I'm pretty sure Jessica Lange has this one already.
The split vote thing is a myth. Jane Krakowski won a Tony in a year she was nominated against two of her co-stars. Nathan Lane won a Tony for THE PRODUCERS though he was nominated against his co-star. Just last year, Christian Borle won though Brad Oscar was in his category. The idea that HAMILTON won't win an acting prize is as ridiculous as those who said Phillipa Soo wasn't going to get in or that only Diggs would be nominated for Featured Actor. HAMILTON will probably win awards for lead actor, featured actor and featured actress.

LOL You're hilarious. I wouldn't be surprised if the winners were Daveed, Renee and Leslie (Phillipa seems like a gratuitous addition, but hey they beat the record because of her). ray-andallthatjazz is very accurate about the vote-splitting myth. Sure, it's happened where multiple nominees lose from one show but there's been lots of times that hasn't mattered.

^Thank you. This comes up every so often, but people leave out that the people who win in these "split vote" scenarios were highly praised in their shows. Robert Lindsay and Norbert Leo Butz were giving excellent performances, and neither of their wins was a shock. Burstein could win Best Actor, but it doesn't have anything to do with a split vote. And I firmly expect Diggs and Goldsberry to win their respective awards.

I'm now really curious about the play races this year, because I think both are really interesting fields. I'm really not sure in either category who'll take it. Any thoughts from the play connoisseurs on who'll take them?
The Humans will win Best Play. Best Revival of a Play is more of a toss-up, but my money is on A View From the Bridge (ugh). Would love a Noises Off upset though.

My guess is that The Humans will win Play and View from the Bridge will win Play Revival, but I haven't seen any of the nominees (living in Chicago makes it hard).
Has a musical ever been nominated in every category before like Hamilton was today? I know past heavy-hitters like Billy Elliot, Producers, and Chorus Line didn't do it.

The thing about HAMILTON is (and I haven't seen it being said yet, but it probably has been before), although it broke the record in terms of nominations, I find it highly unlikely that it will break the record for most wins.
Five of its nominations are between two categories and thus, barring any sort of tie, it can win both categories, but it will only count as two wins, knocking the potential total down to 13, to say nothing of the fact that there are other categories where HAMILTON is nominated, but is not likely to win (Best Actress In A Musical), or could win but faces stiff competition (Best Featured Actress In A Musical), which could knock HAMILTON below the record threshold.

I think (and hope) The Humans will win Best Play, along with both Featured categories. And I expect A View from the Bridge to win Revival and Direction.

What a disaster of a Best Book category. Bright Star over Waitress is disgraceful. And School of Rock is not a book, it's just the movie screenplay. Really disappointed.
American Psycho being shut out in favor of Bright Star is frankly, disturbing.
It's easy to get upset over the snubs, but I'm trying to be grateful for the great season we've been given. In other seasons, Psycho or Tuck would've been locks for nominations. I'm sure we all remember the 2010 season when Memphis won best musical and only 2 of the original score nominees were from musicals.......
