I have to say- as much as people post on these boards how much they hate the show- both times I've seen it- in previews and months later- the audience seems to be totally present and into the show- and were very responsive- both in their applause and their absolute silence and astuteness in following the story.
You feel very communal as an audience- like you're one big group experiencing something special.
This show really is a unique experience in so many ways- truly wonderful.
I agree that the majority of the audience always seems to enjoy the show. I've also had conversations about the show with strangers during intermission, and I don't think that's happened before.
I'm glad that they got a standing ovation immediately last night. I didn't want to be one of the few to jump up right away, but they all deserve it.
"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too."

Did you stagedoor afterwards? I am still remembering all of the great moments from last night's show.

No, I didn't stage door. I'm very shy, so I'd probably just stand there and be awkward, especially when I'm by myself. I was so tempted to do it, but I had such I great time at the show, I didn't want to do anything to ruin the experience.
Yeah, I see what you mean. I didn't stage door until the second time I saw it, and didn't really have anything to say until fter I started going to cast member's solo hows and gigs and the like.

I live out of town and have not seen the show since December. I am so glad that their first night back was so well received by the audience. It probably re-energized them from Sunday night's disappointments and re-confirmed to them that "We're putting out some great theatre here."
Kind of along the same lines...but the night BEFORE the TONY's was an incredible experience. I was talking to Lauren Molina afterwards (backstage, where also Glenn Close walked by---what!) and we were talking about how fast the show went tonight---we think the cast's excitement about the TONY'S cut off like 10 minutes of the show---the energy was great, my seats were great, and it was amazing.
I'm so glad that they had such a warm and welcome reception by the audience (as, of course, I knew they would). They are just so incredibly fantastic, and for me the Tonys were such a kick in the teeth, that I'm sure it felt good for all of them.
