When Kerry Butler was in Rock of Ages I saw Emily Padgett as Sherie and LOVED HER.

Emily Padgett was the best understudy I have ever seen!

I can't remember her name but the understudy for the production of the touring company that was just here last fall. Julia Murney was Elphaba (I think!) but I went in for the "preview" and her understuday went on. I was not crazy about seeing the show for the 3rd time but this girl was wonderful! (Pardon the pun.)

Just give the world Love.

I agree with the above.

Though, I saw Josh Lamon as Margaret Mead before the cast change and that was phenomenal too. As was Jackie Burns as Sheila at the same show.

But Jay was really beyond perfect as Claude.

I, too, LOVED Jay as Claude. It was so refreshing to have such a youthful Claude. (Sorry, Gavin!) Made the end all the more devastating.

I didn not like Eryn's Wendla. At all. (But I know many that did.) I actually loved Jesse Swenson as Melchior. His graveyard scene was the best of any of them.

Since seeing Hair I've hoped each time that Jackie would be on as Sheila and she never was when I went :)

and she never will be because she left The Best Understudy You Have Seen

but I think she's going to be Elphaba....on tour

In the early nineties there was a tour of JCS with Irene Cara as Mary. She apparently almost never performed and a wonderful singer named Leesa Richards understudied sang the hell out of it.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I saw the first national of Thoroughly Modern Millie a few years back. The whole show was a bore, except for the understudy who was on for Trevor Gradon.

Just recently, I saw Jayne Patterson on as Desiree in ALNM, and she was near perfection.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
