let's face it folks: she's not as young as she used to be. that does not alter the fact that Kristin Chenoweth has one of the most gorgeous voices on the planet and is also a fantastic comedienne. i'm sure she has lots of terrific work ahead of her!

The original poster was being kind of two faced: on the one hand, he mentioned her "rapidly aging" and then showering her with praise. It struck me as being hostile and praiseworthy. Not a good combination.

I get why deletion happens but if it is ever possible to show the offending language (without attribution) so we can learn what is not appropriate it sure would be helpful.
Or maybe give us a few sample Not This, But This examples now on the front end so we know where the line gets crossed.

I did not participate in that thread but I think just deleting it is a very disrespectful way of silencing people. The essence of a forum is to have different opinions and of course there will always be some facts of life that will be mentioned here, such as age. Prohibiting that subject and only allowing mentioning "the great things" is a very scary practice.

It struck me as just 2 normal facts that anyone can see and an interesting question about what roles she could play in the future. Sometimes talking about facts of life is more interesting than only praise. If anything, a combination seems balanced to me.

It doesn't matter where it is. Silencing people because they talk about subjects that you may find sensitive is never a good thing especially because that differs for everyone. In this case, aging, which is a beautiful thing in my opinion, should be encouraged to speak about. Silencing or deleting it or shouting "Go away" is never the solution.

I think a good chunk of that is Chenoweth's doing. Boobs front and center, dressing she is still 19, etc. I have sometimes felt that she needs to decide what she wants to be when she grows up. A lot of the stuff she does beyond theatre is junk, e.g., Hallmark or Lifetime channel movies, in which ANYONE could play the roles. She doesn't seem to be making any attempt to hold out for quality...her IMDB history is truly sad.
Yet, I saw her in a one person concert this winter and was surprised by how much her performance was toned down vs. the public persona, and she was really lovely. I knew the voice would be there, but she was much realer and warmer than I have come to expect. Here's hoping that she can find some post-20th Century roles that don't pin her as the aging bimbo.

What's more concerning is that these left-and-right thread deletions are coming from a moderator team that still can't figure out how to let me type an 8 and a closed parenthesis without it turning into a cool-guy-with-sunglasses emoji. That's who I'm entrusting with my free speech rights on here?

It's been heading in that direction for a while now. When I joined this site 10+ years ago, there used to be wide-ranging discussions about theater history, experimental theater, Off and Off-Off Broadway, regional theater, opera, etc. Nowadays it's basically just musicals, Broadway, and "does X sign autographs after matinees?"

Sad, but true. But you could say something similar about the country as a whole, I suppose. Sentiment and buzzwords have replaced thought and discourse.
The Michael Friedman thread is another indicator - one of the best theatre songwriters of our day dies, and only a handful of people reply, and most of them only cite his one Broadway show.

Respectfully, newintown, I don't think the Michael Friedman thread is necessarily a good indicator of what you're saying (although I mostly agree with the overall point).
I can only speak for myself, who posted on it and did reference Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. But it's not for lack of wanting to know Friedman's other work. I'll be the first to admit that I am only in my 20s and still have much to learn. But that's why I'm a member of these forums.

Your comment is dumb. Still, no need to delete it. Because it's only your opinion.
My opinion is that free speech is important, and that deleting random opinions of others that don't necessarily match yours (what is happening here on the forum and what this discussion is about) is alarming.
But considering the fact that you like to delete and erase everything in your way that does not match your way of thinking, you have probably blocked me so you won't read this anyway.
