I finally got through it! And can I just say—Pierre and Andrey, guys. Nicholas Belton's version is so much more raw and emotional and just wow. He improved upon what was already one of my favorite songs in the show. Kudos.

A magnificent recording of an extraordinary production of a remarkable show. I'm in heaven.
The real question is - can anyone tell if they actually used the background vocals they recorded of us in the hall? It honestly doesn't sound like it, but I don't mind, as the experience itself was WAY more worth it than being on the recording for a few seconds. Would love to know anyone else's thoughts on this?

I imagine either it was tweaked to not be too overpowering with the vocals or they might have cut it. However I'm ok with it, the recording sounds amazing regardless and the experience was amazing

I'm a big Comet fan but I feel mixed about the new album. While I felt some songs have improved ("Pierre and Natasha", "Sonya Alone", "The Duel) I think the album lacks some of the intensity in the OCR - particularly in the Bolkonsky songs, "Letters", and "The Ball." Also not a fan of Malloy changing one of my favorite line in "Pierre and Anatole"!
"Amuse yourself with women like my wife / WELL THEN you're within your rights" - OBC 2017
"Amuse yourself with women like my wife / WITH THEM you're within your rights"- OCR 2013
I know its minor but I'm so used to the original line. Oh well. Overall still glad they recorded and released the album though.

It definitely sounds like the vocals were indeed used if The Abduction.

Was it absolutely necessary to record another version of Dust and Ashes? The original recording of this song was perfect, the new recording is not as good in my opinion. I was actually under the presumption they weren't going to record this song a second time and just put the original on the cast recording.

I like the emotion in this newer version more. The previous one was recorded as a single, you can tell he has spent a lot of time with the character since.

Groban sings the original version as Groban, not as Pierre. It makes perfect sense that they'd want to record an in-character version for the cast album.

I'm really fascinated by this score and hope it wins the Tony as well! As someone who's never seen the show, is the entire show is on the recording? Is it sung through or are there dialogue scenes/musical moments not included?

Yes, it's the entire show. The only thing that might be missing is some of the dance music in Balaga/The Abduction, but otherwise it's all there. The only spoken/dialogue moment in the show is Pierre's line to Natasha right at the end.

Thanks, wonderfulwizard11! I'm working my way through the 2013 recording before listening to the new one. Great stuff!!

wonderfulwizard, yeah I think even all of the dance music is included as well.

what's the story behind them changing the pronunciation of "Moscow" from "ow" to "oh"?

The album is downloading onto my phone now! Can't wait to listen to the album first thing tomorrow. I have enjoyed the four pre-releases immensely

The part after the kiss ("I. Will. Love. You. Anatole."
might be my favorite thing from anything this year.*
*I'm still doing my best to avoid all things DEH, until I get the chance to see it.

huh, you'd think if you wrote a musical set in a place you'd learn how to pronounce the name of the city before recording a cast album lol

Anybody with Google Play able to download the album yet?
*EDIT* Downloaded and listening now!

Is there a digital booklet of this version available? It didn't come with the iTunes download.

I hate to be negative but I saw the show last week and thought it was ok. The recording is pretty good but my god, Lucas Steele's voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

DENEE's "No One Else" is sooo beautiful -- better than PHILLIPA SOO's nasally version.

This is easily the best and most complete cast recording since Hamilton.

Both are also sung through musicals.
