Is Sorkin a Broadway fan? I'm catching up on the first season and there are a ton of theatre references. So far I've caught ones about Gypsy, Annie Get Your Gun, Lil Shop, etc.

Well, seeing as he wrote the hit plays A FEW GOOD MEN and THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION, was attached as bookwriter for HOUDINI and is now working on a new musical, I'm guessing he is.

I know, Phyllis! It's the worst.
I think Sorkin did something related to musical theatre in his undergrad, can't remember exactly what, but yes, he is a big musical theatre fan. I wish that meant he wasn't a narcissistic, misogynistic Ass-hole.
I love the show. I don't care if its realistic or not, as I know nothing about the world of producing a news program.
Love it and can't wait for it to come back.

I love it too - love the way he writes dialogue!!! I know its been criticised but I found it interesting and enjoyable
I LOL'd at someone asking if there was nudity in it as when I watched Season 1 I thought it must be then only HBO show with none!!! (unlike Game of thrones and True blood!!!) :)
Looking forward to S2

Sorkin majored in Musical Theater and was a bartender in many Broadway theaters before becoming famous. He loves NYC and theater. His other shows, Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 were all peppered with Broadway references. One entire episode of Sports Night was practically a love letter to Broadway. From that episode:
Dana Loves The Lion King
Episode titled "5/1". From the final scene on the airplane through to the end of the episode. Has me in tears every damn time I watch it.
The writing is great, I just wish he'd lose the clunky personal relationship sub-plots. They are agonizingly written and even more poorly acted. He doesn't need that manufactured melodrama to have an effective show - the real life events he uses have way more melodrama than any ten dramatic shows could need.
No nudity?!? WTF?
Sorkin dated Cheno for a while, he better love Musicals.

Sorkin is notoriously bad at writing relationships. I found this interview from Reel Life, Reel stories where he discusses his love of Broadway. It's a 17 minute interview, but the Broadway part is in the first 2 minutes.
