I went to the Sunday Matinee(not evening)of Normal Heart yesterday. Had a memory lapse so it's good I checked my ticket. This was my third time. I went for the hot seat. First time - third row side, second time - second row center. Sunday, front row center. It was beyond intense. One is literally just feet away. This is an excellent production. I highly recommmend it.
Aside - I was a bit disappointed in Lisa Kron's performance having first seen Joanna Gleason. I'll be curious what I will think after I see it again and she's had more time in the role.
Emcee & folks from the Esparza Heads - I spoke with Raul afterwards about his rumored casting in Brooklyn, the Musical. He said he wasn't involved but some of his friends are with that show. He asked me where I heard that rumor, so I told him from his growing fan club - the Esparza Heads of course. I think that caught he a little off guard.
I also asked Raul whether the Normal Heart was headed to Broadway. He said they weren't sure yet. He thanked me for coming again and supporting the show. Very nice. I think just about everyone came out between shows. All seven main players signed my Playbill and were friendly. Lovely afternoon.
At least the rumor is crushed. I didn't think it was true, since there still exists the possibility that The Normal Heart will make the move to Broadway.
Wicked_Elphie and I need to get tickets soon... we're currently trying to decide on a day, then we'll have to decide where we want to sit... decisions, decisions. Oh, and I'm glad to know that we can still meet Raul after a matinee. That's uber-important.
Lastly, on this post that's probably a bit too long, you told him about the cult (I mean club...)?! What did he say?! I'll have to introduce myself as a founding member... lol!! But I don't want to appear as the starter-of-rumors.... well, at least now he knows we love him!
Just heard Raúl's interview on NY1. I didn't know he used to live in San Francisco. Did anyone here watch the show? What video clip did they play, my computer was acting up and I missed it.

Raul gave, hands down, the SINGLE MOST OUTSTANDING performance I have EVER seen from anyone in anything.
Haha that's funny...I said EXACTLY the same thing to everyone I knew after I saw Tick Tick Boom. But yeah, he earns the same review from me in Normal Heart. In fact, I am going to see it again in just a few days. I don't know why I want to put myself through it again exactly but...you're right...I've never seen anything so emotional on a stage. It was unreal...yet SO real at the same time.
Britt, they played two clips. I don't remember the first one, but the second was from the scene where Ned is asking Felix why he doesn't fight more (I think it's after Felix tells Ned that he was married and has a son).
Perhaps if there is no Broadway transfer, they should televise this production (Showtime, HBO, PBS?) with this cast so that as many people could see this production as possible.
Closing tonight. I guess it's time to let this thread glorious thread die, then.
About the club: Taboo said he just seemed surprised... not in a bad way, though. I wouldn't want to frighten him! She said he didn't really say anything, because she asked him about something else right after. I think it's just that he doesn't really realize how much people love him. Britt, your icon is still making me weaks in the knees. He smiles like that and I'm gone.
