I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
"Every day has the potential to be the greatest day of your life." - Lin-Manuel Miranda
"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
I plan on going to the show on the dat the Tony's are announced - I am that convinced it will get a nom for musical. At the least it should get choreography.
Since we are on the love thread, how can I find out when Janet or Krysta will understudy in the future? I think this month will be full cast but would like to see Janet in a major role soon.
"There's only yes/ Only Tonight/ We must let go/ To know what's right" - Mimi, "Rent"
"I immigrated from the single greatest little plase in the Caribbean. Dominican Republic. I love it. Jesus, I'm jealous of it." Usnavi, "In The Heights"
testing, i was thinking of it but i think im going to see rent because i havent seen rent since decemeber and i want to see will chase again.
i may go later this week to ITH though, I passed by the theatre today and saw robin and said hi. Love that guy.

Testing- your wife was there again tonight? I was there again tonight, back in the lotto seats, chatting with my new friend merch guy during intermission (lol yes I know his name now, now that he *completely* called me out as to my BWW posts, hee).
Also had a great intermission conversation with a fellow theatre goer who was seeing Heights for the first time tonight, and said it was the best out of all the new shows he'd seen this season (couldn't get a handle on if he was a Tony voter or not, though :)). I did have to break the news to him that Glory Days already closed, though- that was a little sad.
I was wondering if anyone here was going to be going to the show next Tuesday the 13th! I can't lotto, but might swing by and see if they're offering up any $31.50 seats that night. So excited for the nominations.
I totally forgot to mention in my post from last night- I also love this thread, and the people in it :), for helping me learn the Spanish in Heights. I'm working on Carnaval right now, which has always been a 'fun' song, but last night for the first time I felt like I actually *got* it, now that I know that the line is "Arriba esa bandera," and what that means, etc. for all of that part.
...and I am also a fan of the 100 different ways Andrea Burns says "coño." And I realized for the first time last night that Nina and Camila are both back where Andrea and Janet are during "Paciencia y Fe," doing the choreography back there, which is one of my favorite bits in that number.
And I love watching the show with first-timers- the woman sitting next to me last night was seeing Heights for the first time, and she was *so* into it, we're talking she went "wow!" the first time Lin-Manuel says 96,000, and "awwww"'d during Robin's "do you think Bert would ever abandon Ernie" speech, it was so fun.
Thanks !! I REALLY need it tonight !! (work is killing me !!)
The people on the thread have been great !!!
I went with a co-worker last week (she hasnt stopped talking about the show yet!) that happens to speak the language. Learned so much from her !!! She was hysterically laughing during Abuela's "plastic surgery" lines !!
Something I mentioned to Anakela, but I thought I'd point out here, since I think it's a pretty cool attention to detail: Whenever Usnavi speaks in Spanish (especially at the beginning of the show, when he says "oye piraguero, como estas?") he does so in a Dominican accent. To the untrained ear, there's no difference between the Puerto Rican and Dominican accents. Even Latinos who are not from these 2 nations would have a hard time noticing the subtle differences. So it really makes me happy that he makes sure to be authentic to his character, even when 99% of the audience would never be able to tell the difference.
This goes for everyone in the show, btw. But Lin-Manuel is the only one I know for sure is from a different nationality than his character.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when I'm seeing a tv show, and they have a Puerto Rican character, but the actor is obviously not Puerto Rican, and has a Mexican, or some other Hispanic nationality, accent. It happens a lot, and it just bugs the hell out of me. So it thrills me to death whenever they get it right.
I was putting together my schedule for next semester today and I decided to do Spanish as my language requirement! I had no real desire to learn the language until I saw In the Heights, and now I'm really looking forward to it!

Because actually none of that was in there aside from the fact that I saw the show and thought it was great. I wanted to ask him his thoughts on the American Dream as it related to ITH for a source for my paper on broadway musicals.
