I'm over it. We moan and groan about these things every year, and we still support the Tony's.

Congrats to COMPANY! I wish it had gotten more nominations, but I hope that it wins all three of them.
And what about Celia of LES MIS? I would have loved to see her get nominated.
Keeping my fingers crossed for John Gallagher Jr of SPRING AWAKENING. Hopefully, he will take something home that night.

I'm extremely happy to see that Esparza, Company, Ebersole, Amboise, and Grey Gardens all were offered Tony nominations! They all deserve them

No David HP. He didn't have emotion....anyway I hope that Gavin Lee deserves that Tony.....he was so amazing, David was good, but compared to Gavin he looked like an amiture.

i have to agree now, the scenic design in SA works for what it is, never really thought of it like that

Popular---Looking at those pics you posted, I'm really shocked Pirate Queen didn't get a costume nomination.
Even if they didn't like the show, those are jaw-dropping photos of the "garb." Too bad they can't judge each category on its own merit.
Oh... and Gavin Lee was nothing more than a glorified chorus boy in Mary Poppins. He left ZERO impression on me in the show. Easily replaceable, and no "personal" traits whatsoever in his acting. If he WAS acting, I missed it entirely. But he danced very well... as do the hundreds of unsung heroes in the chorus these days. Whatever.

I agree re: the costumes for PQ. But the only costumes have shown are the Queen's. What about the 200 other costumes in the show?

I think that maybe the Spring Awakening set nod, along with possibly a few others, were intentionally to put out Pirate Queen. Like how the committee went out of their ways last year to not nominate Julia Roberts.

I agree with that B3. The costumes in SA are lovely and stylish, however they are not oozing with creativity or originality. There was only so much Hilferty could do with that show, so no pun at her, because I think she's fantastic.

I also agree about SA getting a Set and Costumes nod. They were ine, but nothing special.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Despite me being a HUGE fan of Mary Poppins, I do accept that the actors likely won't win. There were some really great performances this season in general.
Also, I think it's a fun, entertaining, and rather moving, show. However, I feel that Spring Awakening or Grey Gardens are more deserving of the title. If it did win Best Musical, I wouldn't be upset, because I think it's a mammoth with heart. But I'd like to see more ambitious theatre get the title.
But Poppins definitly deserves design and choreography, no doubt.

I think Les Miz was more deserving of a nomination than Apple Tree. Alexander Gemignani's performance should have been recognized. What a shame!

Like I said previously Spring Awakening's set is minimalist but works and deserves to be recognized. I think they had to have something different from all the more elaborate sets this year.

Gemignani may be the best Jean Valjean LES MISERABLES has ever seen, but that's really beside the point. It's pretty obvious that the Nominating Committee just viewed this entire "revival" as a continuation of the run that ended a few years ago. Do you know how many Jean Valjean replacements LES MISERABLES has seen throughout its years on Broadway? None of those men were eligible for Tony Award nominations, so why should Gemignani be?

Just wanted to throw in a little more Julie White love: I'm glad to read in several of the nominees' reactions on broadway.com their excitement at seeing Ms. White's name in the list of nominees. Hopefully, the Tony voters will agree. I have yet to see Deuce, but from what I've heard, I hope they don't vote for Ms. Lansbury- clearly a legend- simply because she is so.
I'm still very shocked by a few of the nominations and only truly bothered by the exclusion of Ms. Davie, which I was prepared for. Regardless, congrats to all of the nominees! Regardless of what we think of the nominations, this is a thing to be celebrated.

Yays:
Congrats to Laura Bell Bundy on her nom, and Debra Monk too - they had some tough competition to overcome.
Surprised Chenoweth was snubbed, but i do feel it's for the better.
Jonathan Groff!
Christopher Akerlind for his lighting design of 110 in the Shade
Nays:
Rebecca Luker over Barbara Walsh?
Mary Poppins in general - Gavin Lee? Musical? Legally Blonde was a better show than Poppins - and Steve Kazee should get Lee's spot. Oh well, that's a battle of coporate power, and Disney's got the people behind Legally blonde whooped.
Predictions:
Pretty much the same as everyone's been saying, but I feel like we could get some major surprises, particularly in the leading musical categories. Ebersole has some tough competition - could divided votes pull the win another direction? Same with Esparza - this wouldn't be the first time a young upstart (GrofF) got the Tony from the experienced forerunner (see last year, with LaChanze over LuPone.)
