Foanatic, I just wanted to say I agree with you on your opinions about GREY GARDENS and SPRING AWAKENING 100%
as for Featured Actress in a Musical, if either Mary Louise or Karen Ziemba won I'd be happy
and im rooting for David Hyde Pierce for Leading Actor in a Musical, though I feel Raul will take it
and WHY WASNT EDWARD HIBBERT NOT NOMINATED FOR CURTAINS? sheesh, haha, he couldve easily been there in place of Borle

Oh, it has been killing me all day waiting for the nominations (I was at work all day, just got home).
I'm am so thrilled SA and GG got so many nominations. I am rooting for GG to take the majority of the wins though.
LBB over Kristin?
The MP/LB bipolarness reminds me of the Oscars where movies will sometimes be nominated for Best Picture and then shut out of the Director nod (ex: Driving Miss Daisy). Or will get nods for everything but Best Picture (ex: DreamGirls).
LoveMusik got passed over for Best Musical?

SA for Best Scenic Design of a Musical??? Are they serious?????
That's just laughable.

Im surprisd that they overlooked Kristin's performance but not at all upset about it- the show was received really lukewarmly and it seemed to be the point was to get Cheno a TOny nom and nothing more.
that said, i do NOT understand how they can give a nom to Debra Monk, whose role is one dimensional and SO SMALL! its just stupid. this is a race between audra and murphy for who might maybe upset Ebersole.
the only real issue i have is the way Company was shut out- this show needed to post "8 Tony Noms!" all over its newspaper ads. Three isnt going to cut it and I just cant see this show lasting past the awards, even though I really loved it.
I havent seen all the nominees and I am glad that Charlotte is getting some recognition, but no Barbra Walsh? No Heather Laws? Luker is giving a boring, meaningless performance in a boring meaningless show. Wheres the Company love? I was sure either Barbara or Heather would pick one up. Shame.
I also dont get the PQ treatment- its quite a statement to shut a show out like that. I wonder if it will hurt their box office.

Is it just me or is Ashley Brown the first women to star in a Disney show and NOT get nominated for a Tony?
Anyway, Chenoweth and Hibbit should deffenatly been nominated, I was rather upset.........

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:04pmPut me in the camp that did not enjoy Erin Davie's performance, but you also can put me in the camp, minority though it may be, that did not care for Christine Ebersole either ... or the show. It was, quite likely, the biggest disappointment I have had in the theater.

No Bill Nighy =

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:09pmIt kind of annoys me that even though some people may have not like someones performance they think it is laughable that they got a nomination. It caught the eye of the Tony committee and they think they are worthy, even though some of you do not. In the end they are the ones walking away with the nomination, and you are not.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:11pmI agree StickToPriest. I'd also hoped Andrew Scott might squeeze in there in Featured Actor. I loved seeing him grow in the role of Philip throughout the show's run. I think I wanted Andrew to get a nom even more than Bill.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!
#340re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:14pmI don't see how Nighy could have NOT received a nod unless the committee didn't even see the show.

"Why are people shocked Lazar did not get a nomination. What did he do that was new to the role. Just because you think he is cute or has a nice voice does not mean he is Tony worthy."
I am not shocked he didn't get it. I believe I already said that. I was implying that compared to Christian Borle, he was much better. And it's hardly because I think he's just cute and has a nice voice. I've seen all the performers nominated, and I haven't been impressed by any of them. That's all.
I am hoping hoping hoping Raul wins. It's about time.
#342re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:15pmI think Susan Hilferty just got a nomination for being Susan Hilferty. The costumes in Spring Awakening are nothing exceptional.
#343re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:16pmI also was surprised about Nighy, and I was mildly suprised by no Julianne Moore. I thought her performance was basically lackluster with moments bordering on brilliant, but I thought her star power might have some pull. Nighy, on the other hand, was wonderful.
#344re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:17pmYeah I thought Julianna Moore would get a nomination as well. I've seen her do better in her films, but she wasn't all that bad.
#345re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:21pmI half agree about Susan's costumes. They are not as elabortae as they were for say Wicked. But she did do some cool touches like shoes etc. Who knows.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:23pmWhy not just congratulate the noms and say if you like, with your freedom of speech, you wish someone you liked was nominated. but why whine and cry and be nasty about the ones that are nominated that you don't like it. It cannot be changed and all the protest and anger will not change it. IT IS DONE!

Most of the time I saw it, Julianne was brilliant. After I saw it a couple of times, I got that the first act Nadia's SUPPOSED to be a bit withdrawn...and it comes out why in act two. And therein lies the brilliance of it. (She also really started to let fly towards the end of the run, even imitating Bill's hip wiggle with his hands out on or after the "Charming as hell" line. Too funny! And the first night she did it, it totallt threw him.)
As for no Bill... Or any noms... I think that there's the possibility that the nominating people, like a lot of the critics, couldn't get past that four letter word. IRAQ. Which was really only a TINY bit of the play.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!
#348re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:26pmreally suprised about the SA noms for scenic design and costumes, neither were that great, but what is done is done
#349re: The Official Tony Nominations Thread
Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:28pmSpring Awakening scenic design is unique and I think that is why it got a nomination. It's minimalist, but it works.
