Fascinating that they've designated the "Heil Myself" portion of "Springtime for Hitler" as its own track this time. Unless Brooks has somehow expanded it...

"Looks like King of Broadway has been cut from the movie since its a bonus track"

I guess the peeps in charge aren't as in tune with what the fans want as those involved in the RENT film. Oh well. At least it's on the soundtrack.

I still don't get why "King of Broadway" was cut. WTF?

Yeah, "Betrayed" may have been a more likely choice to cut out because of the "Intermission" bit. (I wonder what they'll do at that part.)

Well, Nathan probably wouldn't let them cut "Betrayed" anyway, if he had any say--I read that he was "iffy" about accepting the role in the original stage production until Mel Brooks wrote that number for him.

This stinks - If I had to cut a song for the space of time, it would have been "You Never Say Good Luck On Opening Night".

They probably cut it to get the movie off to a faster start. "Opening Night" and the beginning of the first scene in Max's office already establish that Max hasn't had a success in a while.

So do you think they cut the 'Opening Night' Reprise or just didn't include it on the CD?

Let's see, they cut:

**The King of Broadway (ridiculous--screw exposition and plot-driving, it's a damn good song and this is a musical, it's about the music, this song should be present...if you wanna cut, I agree, cut Bad Luck to Say Good Luck, it's stupid enough)
**In Old Bavaria (*shrugs*)
**Where did we go Right (another terrible choice to cut, imo...one of the shows most clever songs)

Oh wow, I'm really going to miss "King of Broadway." It's my second favorite song from the show, "Betrayed" being the first.

I don't get it. The kept "Never Say Good Luck..." and "Der Guten Tag Hop Clop", but cut "The King of Broadway"?

Yeah...since you've seen it and all.

This is the only reasoning that I can think of them cutting King of Broadway. It's a great number than can work to hear him singing about being the King of Broadway on a BROADWAY stage. But on film? I realize that the film is still about Broadway, but if you get what I'm saying, I guess that's why they did it. No idea.

Amen cats. The Rentheads are expecting to go in the Rent movie and see the exact stage show transfered to film with real life sets.

It dosen't work that way. The RENT movie isn't going to be everything the fans may want or expect.

It seems like THE PRODUCERS movie will be more faithful to the stage show, than Rent.

Songs get cut from movies all the time. This isn't anything new. Is it upsetting? Ofcourse. But it happens with almost every Movie Musical.

"The Rentheads are expecting to go in the Rent movie and see the exact stage show transfered to film with real life sets".

Speaking as a "Renthead" I can only speak for myself and say that I'm not expecting to see the stage show transferred to film with real life sets. As a matter of fact I look forward to seeing the differences implemented in the movie version. I wouldn't want the movie to be a direct carbon copy of the stage show. If the changes are made for the better then that's a good thing. Sometimes change is good and in some cases can be great! Just my 2 cents.

I should've been more clear. Not every Renthead is expecting that, but I know what some are expecting. Then we will hear bitching about how it wasn't faithful.

Is it bad luck to mention that I'm hoping for certain cast members to get Oscar nominations? If it's bad luck, I won't mention it.

Lane was not iffy about taking the role until Betrayed was written. Betrayed was, in fact, a replacement song written to give the show an 11th hr number...like Rose's Turn...because Lane felt that the original song was too meager and sad. He had long ago accepted the role when he actually got this number. And he would have NO say in what Universal left in or took out. He isn't Tom Cruise.

As for the movie working without King of Broadway, the preview reports seem very positive without it but if you think about what musical numbers are SUPPOSED to do in theater...they are supposed to explain something or someone. The song 'King of Broadway' is purposely positioned at the point where the audience has left the theater in disgust and it is meant to be the exposition for Max...to explain who he is and how he has fallen from the heights to the depths. By taking it out...you see the people leave the theater, you see Max standing there and have no idea who he is and then you cut to the office and you have to figure out who Leo AND Max are all at the same time. It doesn't fit the musical convention very well...but it was cut merely for length...so we all have to live with it. Movie studios after all know more than any one else including people who produce musicals every day. Oh well...it is what it is. I am happy to hear that audiences seem to like it anyway, but I still think the movie would have gotten off to a better and faster start with the song left right where it was. But movies rarely make it to the screen unchanged. Ask any author who has had their book purchased for a screenplay. It is often unrecognizable by the time it makes it to the screen.
