This is from Patricia Resnick's twitter:
"Our cast will be joined by Dolly Parton performing a portion of "9 to 5" in the Tony's opening montage"
I enjoyed the montage for the '05 awards. I think it's a great idea.

What is the point of the Tony committee being able to purposefully snub shows they don't like out of spite if everyone gets to be on the show anyway?

Well I don't know about EVERYONE. I don't know if the casts of The Story of My Life, A Tale of Two Cities, 13 and [title of show] are gonna be performing.

The Little Mermaid, Young Frankenstein and A Catered Affair performed last year. They were all nominated for something. I think it's important that the Tony awards advertise all Broadway shows.

Whatever happens, I'm still rootin' for N2N and Billy Elliot!
It makes sense to include 9 to 5 because it's the only currently running musical that wasn't nominated. Besides [tos], I can't imagine the other musicals putting together something for one night.
The only reason 9 TO 5 was snubbed out of a Best Musical nomination was to protect BILLY ELLIOT.
The same way LEGALLY BLONDE was snubbed a few years ago to protect SPRING AWAKENING.
"Protect" Billy Elliot?
They didn't want the easily tourable bubble gum musical to swipe Best Musical out from the more deserving, artsy show.

Sans the "bubble gum" comment, that's still happening in the race for Best Musical.
Which Best Musical nominee would you label bubble gum?
What I meant was, there is still an easily tourable musical "swiping" Best Musical from the more deserving, artsy show. That being, Billy Elliott and Next to Normal, respectively. I was saying that by taking out the words "bubble gum," the situation you said won't happen, is happening, IMO at least.

Well, having Dolly sing with the cast will lead the general public to believe that she is in fact, in the show. Smart move on the Producers part. Smarmy, but smart.

Oh, is that why Spamalot won over Piazza and Spelling Bee?
Legally Blonde wouldn't have beaten Spring Awakening, even though I would have liked it to.
I'd really love to see [tos] be a part of this montage. They really do deserve to be.
Well...if ANY closed show is going to make an appearance, you can count on it being {tos}!
Frankly, I'm kind of tired of all the Tony Talk...BRING IT ON!!!!

thats the dumbest ****ing thing i've read in month.
As far as [tos] goes, I think what people are missing is that you don't just up and perform on the Tonys -- it costs MONEY. And lots of it. Where is a closed show that has nothing coming in going to come up with that kind of money?

You can do better than that, the only reason?
Emcee, why are you trying to kill my dream?

I would HARDLY call Billy Elliot "artsy"...
