It won't just be the final production of 2023 for the historic performance space; it will be the Delacorte's final production for the next two years. That's because the Public Theater, in partnership with Central Park Conservancy and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, is embarking on a revitalization project of the 61-year-old theater, beginning in the fall of 2023 and reportedly culminating in time for the 2025 summer season.

Actually, it WILL "just be the final production of 2023." Because there will be no productions at all in 2024, a fortiori there will be no final production in 2024. Likewise, because there WILL be productions in 2025 (and I think it is fair to assume none of them will be The Tempest), that play will not be the final production of 2025. Moreover, even if we reformulate to conform with what Timeout actually said ("The Tempest’ will be the last show at Central Park’s Delacorte Theatre until Summer 2025"‘The Tempest’ will be the last show at Central Park’s Delacorte Theatre until Summer 2025. Here’s why., it is still not the case that it will be the last show "for the next two years" because in the second of those years there will in fact be new productions.

And as long as I am nitpicking, the Public Theater is NOT in the East Village, as Timeout says.

I just saw my first Delacorte production on Friday night. And for the record, it was excellent and it flew by. Can't wait to discuss it in my AP English Lit class next month!

But if I had never seen the Delacorte as it looks today, I would definitely be disappointed and wonder what it used to look like. I can understand that the theater needs to be more accessible, but on the other hand, getting there from the 81st subway stop in 95 degree weather was, to me, the equivalent to hiking Mount Everest. There are no signs directing you to the Delacorte, and a myriad of paths to take. Luckily on the way back to the subway after the show, I just let the mob carry me. I hope that better directions and signage are part of the renovation, but it looks to be mostly facelift type stuff. I hope they don't cut down any trees between the stage and Belvedere Castle.
