"Until the next sorry one starts --- like in July!"
My God you're a nasty little p**ck aren't you?
I for one am absolutely thrilled that Fun Home is getting the recognition it so rightfully deserves especially Jeanine Tesori and her divine score. I too am rooting for Sydney Lucas to take home the award but I wouldn't be upset at all if Kuhn wins.
You know, I never really got what people loved about the Fun Home score. The melodies aren't very interesting (and certainly not memorable), the lyrics are fine, and the orchestrations are super annoying. The score played fine in the theatre, but it really felt flat. That doesn't mean people can't like it, but I am interested what someone who loves the score thinks is so great about it.
I am so happy that The Visit got a nomination for best musical. Hopefully it will help the grosses.
A bunch of my favorite performances from this season got nominated, including all the Fun Home nominations, Kelli and Ruthie for The King and I, and Alex Sharp for Curious Incident! In addition, it was fantastic to see Curious Incident nominated for best choreography, and I am thrilled for the Something Rotten cast who I found hysterical when I saw the show!
Morning Glow2- exactly. I have resolved not to rise to the bait.
Interesting, though, how many more comments there on on the rant thread than this, (although I recognize there are also a lot of positive comments on that one too)
The rant board has always been a catch all, it's for all comments.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Happy threadjack: I'm just happy that so many performances and shows I like received nominations. I'm especially happy for Tony Yazbeck and Max Von Essen and Lisa Kron--and I really hope the best supporting actress/musical goes to Ruthie Ann Miles, because her performance has really stuck with me since I saw The King and I. She redefined the role of Lady Thiang in a way I had never imagined.
I'm also happy for Jerry Robbins, whose work was the direct inspiration for the work of two of the nominated choreographers--Joshua Bergasse and Christopher Gattelli--and an indirect inspiration for Christopher Wheeldon, who was somewhat of a protege of Robbins at New York City Ballet.
I am so ecstatic and thrilled that Fun Home received so many nominations - such a gorgeous, ground-breaking musical. The moment I listened to the cast recording, I fell in love; a musical has never hit me so hard. This is the first time that I want a show to take home everything - as much as I adore Kelli and so many others, I want the Fun Home cast and production to win every category they are nominated for (Featured Actress is going to be intense). There is definitely no current show on Broadway that compares to it, or can even compete with it. The show of the (half-)century, in my opinion.
Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.
"There is definitely no current show on Broadway that compares to it, or can even compete with it."
Don't be so stinting in your praise! No musical ever written in the annals of history can compete with it!
"The show of the (half-)century, in my opinion."
Uh, the half-century still has 34 years to go.
But to continue the positivity theme of this thread, I'm beyond thrilled that there are no separate awards for best music and best lyrics, because that's one less award the little stinker will win!

Which makes me so excited for the Broadway debut of Hofesh Shechter, a unique choreographer who was hired by Bartlett Sher for his upcoming revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, also using the concepts of Jerome Robbins.
You know PalJoey, this year was not only some of the best years when it comes to choreographed dance, but also the year that Jerome Robbins gets all the love and respect that talented man deserves. Why oh why didn't the same treatment come to that revival of WEST SIDE STORY? Where was Gattelli or Bergasse when that production started??
Tony Awards I have to congratulate you , on fine nominations. I live in Australia but by readingBroadwayworld.com I have been able to connect with Broadway performers. I love you choose musicals based on merit this season rather than ones that will SELL. I was loosing trust in the winners and nominees 2 seasons ago. This year you showed everyone with some might say controversial decision not to include certain shows. By highlighting ones that had artistic merit as well as ones that are breaking the mould like Fun Home. Its truly inspirational to see a show that might not sell as much as lets say Finding Neverland. I personally think from reading the reviews from critics and theatre goers as one that truly breaks the mould should have more credit and more nominations than one that does not. I think you having so much faith in a show that not everyone will appreciate but is so daring in its writing and approach get so much love. I think a show that breaks the mould and is great should get nominated. Its truly encouraging to all the new book writers and lyricists that try to change and evolve the craft to see a show get so many nominations. I personally was not thinking of seeing Broadway this year but by seeing a show that is so small and has little commercial value get so much love restores my faith in the theatre producers . I will try to come in December
If you can translate this into English then maybe it would make sense.
I finally have a chance to post my reactions here. School occupied me all day, yesterday. Anyway, I'm pleased with all of the nominations. I'm impressed that the BWW forums guessed almost everything accurately. Honestly, I really should change this, but I'm into the musical and not the plays (I feel guilty), so I really have no say for most of the the play categories
Best Musical/Play: Perfect choices. Fun Home will win Musical while it will be an exciting competition between Curious and Hand to God.
Note: Really surprised that American got so much nominations, given the mixed reactions here
Best Revival of a Musical: Not surprised, but it would have been nice for Side Show to get recognition. There was no way Gigi was going to be here, given the reviews. Right now, my gut feeling is telling me that On the 20th Century will win. We're about to get tickets for that and King and I for June, so this will be a good surprise when i see both of these shows :)
Best Score: Awesome to see Sting there. Congratulations to him and Rob Mathes!
Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play: I think it's going to be between Alex and Steven, but I think it'll be Alex, based on the reviews.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical: Based on the recording, it's definitely Michael Cerveris's year. Without him, I think the winner would have been Robert Fairchild.Very shocked that Wantanabe got in, based on his diction
Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical: Very excited! I would be happy with any of the actresses, winning. I haven't seen Fun Home, but isn't Beth/Allison just the narrator?
Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical: Also shocked that Karl got in, based on the reviews, but glad to see that he got in. Thrilled that Borle got in. He looks great, based on the previews!
Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical: WOW! Congrats to all 3 Allisons and Judy! Perfect choices for nominees. People say that Ruthie Ann Miles will win, but based on the soundtrack (I sound extremely stupid to make assumptions when I haven't seen the musicals), I wouldn't be surprised if Sydney, Emily, or Judy win it. Great to see Victoria in there!
Best Choreography: So thrilled for Curious! What a fantastic surprise!
Best Lighting Design of a Musical: Based on the behind-the-scenes video, I have to guess that Fun Home is going to win. Beautifully done!
