Kimbrough originated Harry in COMPANY (for which he received a Tony nom) and Jules/Bob in SUNDAY IN THE PARK, among many other theatre credits. Starting in 1988, he spent a decade on MURPHY BROWN as newsman Jim Dial; he received an Emmy nomination for that performance. In 2002, decades after COMPANY, he married his co-star, Beth Howland, and they remained together until her death in 2016. His last screen role was a few episodes of the reboot of MURPHY BROWN in 2018.
He died on January 11, but the death is only being reported now.
RIP to a great actor.

I once saw him in an excellent revival of Hay Fever with Rosemary Harris.
There was an episode of Murphy Brown that I have always remembered in which Murphy and Jim are at a hotel in the bar/lobby and there's a piano. Conservative Jim gets up to play and begins playing a classical piece that morphed into him playing and singing "Don't Get Around Much Anymore".
It was some kind of wonderful and so was he.
A lovely actor. Very sad to hear this.
A wonderful singing actor whose performance in COMPANY could not be equaled, and whose comic talents in MURPHY BROWN were second to none.
RIP, and thank you for years of pleasure.

Somehow I have a memory of him playing Dr Pangloss in CANDIDE. Is it accurate?

RIP. A fantastic actor and contributor to iconic productions. I always enjoy him when I watch the taping of Sunday.
Yes, He was a Dr. Pangloss in Candide. That's something I would've loved to see him do.

Awwww...sad news. May his memory be a blessing.
Aw, Highland Guy, I was hoping a video sleuth would unearth it. Thanks!

I was surprised to learn he had been Pangloss in the famous Harold Prince revival. And I just came across this clip, which gives a great sense of his vitality in it!
