"A few weeks ago I was at a new revival and I ran into some friends who are Tony voters before the show, chatted with them at their seats, and then when I turned back a few times during the second act, they were long gone."
I know a few Tony voters who will leave at intermission if the show is not to their liking. Some of them, because of their schedules, have to pack a lot of shows into relatively short periods, and it can be rather draining to sit through something that you don't like and find nothing redeeming about. On some occasions I've joined them in leaving and in some instances we've cursed the fact that a show has no intermission and we don't get the satisfaction of ending the torture early.

I'm assuming that if you're well off enough there's a point where your time is more valuable than the amount you spent on the ticket. Personally, if I ever reach that point, I'll probably see shows more than once rather than walk out at intermission.
Corinne, Nathan Lane wasn't in the cast Tim Gunn saw. Martin Short was playing the part Nathan had originated.
I saw that cast as well, and did stick it out to the end, although in retrospect I too would have done well to cut out after Act 1. Tim Gunn stating he left early has as much bearing on a show as Kim Kardashian staying she loved the current cast of MAMA MIA, which is to say no bearing at all. (And no, I don't believe Kim has ever stated which cast of MAMA MIA she prefers.)
Well it's not like Jane Lynch walking out on Lea Michele's opening night in FUNNY GIRL. And I doubt he left because he had a hot date. I'll never understand why he found it necessary to share with the world that he hasn't had sex in over thirty years. Not to mention Florence Henderson telling Matt Lauer last week that she still has "friends with benefits" at 82. Sometimes less is more. He should've just answered the question by just stating the play's title and left it at that.
I noticed that some non-English speaking tourists left The PHantom of the Opera at intermission. I suspect that they had seen the movie and thought the show was over because the chandelier had fallen. I doubt it was that they didn't understand anything -- a show like Phantom can work if you just enjoy the music.

I'm convinced that's probably why they removed the intermission from It Shoulda Been You, not to mention other shows.

Mr. Gunn is in good company. His dislike for the production is not an anomaly.
He seems to be a pretty honest person. This morning on "The View" he had some pretty harsh words for Anna Wintour. In fact, it made me respect even more.

He is a straight shooter if nothin' and I respect that as well. You never need to wonder what he thinks.
Gothampc...I was guilty of impulsively writing myself here. (Had not clicked on your link so as to put it into context.) By commenting like he did, he certainly aroused suspicion & was seemingly wishing to communicate something unexpressed? (Makes me glad to be a nobody so that I am able to come & leave a show without notice.)

Ooohhh, what did he say about Anna Wintour?
Whether one agrees with him or not, I give him credit for honesty.

^ I guess you do, since you came on the thread to comment.
Tim Gunn in his book said he saw Wintour carried down five flights of stairs by her bodyguards, apparently because she didn't care to walk. I hope he's not lying, because, seriously, that is so awesome in a horrible way if it's true.
To Wilmington
By saying who cares I am saying I do not and wondering why anyone else woukd

^ And I am saying if you really don't care, why would you come onto this thread?

I balked at bodyguards. Why does she need bodyguards?

I would hope that anyone, no matter how well off or not, values their time more than sitting through something they don't enjoy.
Mr. Gunn made the right call. The second act was... tough.

Thanks, skies!! Honestly, I believe it. Why would he lie?
