re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

The link doesn't work for me.

But, yeah, a lot of the big pundits are predicting a huge possibly record-tying 12+ wins for BILLY. I think it's definitely possible.

The link doesn't work for me either.

Billy is a great musical but it's not better than A Chorus Line.

But then nor was The Producers.

EDIT: fixed now - thank you. I guess the percentages mean they know a number of voters and have counted their preferences - a bit like an EXIT poll.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

Thanks!

I think it should be interesting to see what happens in the Best Featured Actress/Actor races regarding BILLY. Could Jbara and Gwyne ride the wave of the inevitable sweep and win?

I hope not. I loved their performances but Swenson and Olivo are much more deserving, IMO. But I think it's definitely another possibility.

Here are the GoldDerby predictions. They predict BILLY will take home 12 awards (if I counted correctly): http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2009/05/tony-awards-predictions-broadway-news-837910752.html

Link doesnt work for me either--- as much as I like "BE", I really hope the sweep isnt this drastic either !!

"N2N" should definitely take Score and Orchestrations.

Random thought, but I really, really hope HAIR wins for Lighting Design of a Musical.

Sitting in the box seats a few weeks ago, I got a great view of the lights in the wings and above the stage...Kevin Adams really did a stunning job with the lighting designs.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

N2N honestly should take

Best Original Score
Best Actress
Best Orchestrations
Best Sound Design

It's a real shame they it might only get actress, and possibly score.

And I'm trying not to get too excited for all the Olivo love. She really has the critics' support.

I saw Billy Elliot again recently and although Jbara did a good job, it came no where near the stellar work Swenson does.

I am so ANTI-sweep.

Hair: A Welcome Acid Flashback. I love it!

I am hating BIlly more and more each second. I hate to see it sweep but it will.

SOOOOOOO glad Karen Olivo is predicted to win all over the place! That si the only award I really give a $hi+ about.

God of Carnage for best play?

The only reason that would have made it onto my London list would have been for the cast, and even they weren't enough of a draw.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

I love the Karen Olivo love but I"m trying not to get my hopes up.

Hair needs to take lighting design.

Yawn. A Billy sweep is so depressing and sad, considering what an overrated piece of nonsense it is.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

It's kind of hard not to get your hopes up for the Olivo love.

As of now, Brantley, Isherwood, John Simon, Time Out New York, and 6 out of 10 critics on GoldDerby have predicted Karen.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

Agreed wholeheartedly with the above 4. I loved Billy Elliott, but the only categories I would be okay with Billy winning is Musical, Actor, Director, Choreography, Set, and Book. As much as I loved the show, I didn't care for Jbara, and sadly didn't get to see Hayden.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

I think Gwynne's win is almost inevitable given the ridiculous number of nominations that BILLY ELLIOT got, particularly the fact that they got two actors from their show in each featured actor in a musical category makes me think that they are very likely to win in those categories. It's a shame because while Jbara does a good job in a role that IMO has no award potential (apparently I'm the only person who thinks this), Will Swenson is blowing the roof off the Hirschfield with an incredible performance as Berger.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

Ray, I disagree about Gwynne, but agree about Jbara. All he does is yell for three hours. An award for him is either because of a Billy sweep, or because they want to award his "body of work."

I've thought this since the first time I saw the production. The lighting is incredible. Was there any color not used? Yet, was any of it superfluous? So great.

BILLY ELLIOT an overrated piece of nonsense?

Agree. Agree. If she loses to Gwynn, then it is just ridiculous.

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

not sure what to say for the featured actress catagory(when i saw WSS Karen was out) but i really didn't care that much for Jbara. i see no reason why he should take it over Will Swenson. i think Bologna deserves it more then Jbara. i loved him. i was like "wow this kid really got a tony nom?" then i saw the show this past week and he definitely deserves it.

and agree about Hair taking lighting! definitely should happen!

Martha Plimpton needs to win over Olivo. She was a revelation!

re: Time Out New York's Tony Predictions...

I would love to see Martha Plimpton win, but sadly I feel she will be forgotten again. I didn't think Olivo was anything special even though she was the best of the bunch in WSS. I wouldn't cry if Gwynne wins as I rather enjoyed her performance. But ultimately I would love Plimpton to score an upset.

The Best Actress in a Play will be interesting, even though Harden probably has it, I would like to see Fonda win, or McTeer. Can we have a tie?
