No, it's not. It's really cheesy, even though a cool cast is nice. And also, the tour has been canceled, or so I'm told.

I saw both the movie and the stage version and I didn't think they were so different...I mean there are minor changes like the whole weird turtle thing but they're very similar as far as cheesiness goes. I guess it is mildy entertaining at some parts...slightly, but I still loathe it. Oh well, to each his/her own.
I hate Bye Bye Birdie. I saw it at my friend's school and I was in stage crew for my school's production. I've nearly memorized it.

Hugh Panaro as Conrad? Interesting. Although I think Hugh is truly talented and versatile, I'd like him to play a "meatier" role.
I've never seen Bye Bye Birdie on stage, only the movie. But from the impression I got from that I wasn't too fond of it. Fun and cheery show, but not my cup of tea. :)

I love BYE BYE BIRDIE. With the right cast and especially direction, it can be AMAZING. I've seen some terrible productions (including last season's production at City Center, wretchedly directed by the talent-free Jerry Zaks,) and some great ones. When it's good, it's GOOD and when it's bad, it's BAD.
I said this last time this topic came up, but I would absolutely insist upon Donna Murphy playing Rose. It's a match made in heaven.
There is one--it's called All Shook Up and its terrible.
Huh?

I love Roger Bart and Jenine LaManna. I could see them working tegether great!
munk, im saying that the terrible Jukebox All Shook Up is practically a revival of bye bye birdie. Or at least, it would like to be. Watching the show, i kept thinking, why didnt they just revive Birdie if they wanted to put up this crap?
REnboy86, next year's tour of BYE BYE BIRDIE has been cancelled. It was reported here and elsewhere; the production team saying there were "too many revivals out there right now." I agree it is time to have BIRDIE back on Broadway. There has never been a Broadway revival before. The obvious star would be the fabulous Eric McCormack of WILL AND GRACE fame.
Marc as Conrad? First he's already played the role on the LAST tour.
Second, he's way too old.
More like Bye Bye Geritol.
