I think this show would be amazing on Broadway right now! Tell me if my casting skills are right on or way out of the ball park!
Albert - Roger Bart
Rosie - Mandy Gonzalez, Janine La Manna
Conrad - Marc Kudisch, Hugh Panaro
Kim - Jennifer Gambatese
Mr. MacAfee - Dick Latessa, Mel Brooks
Mrs. MacAfee - Louise Pitre
Mrs. Peterson - Beth Fowler

Albert- Roger Bart

Kinda sorta... Albert needs to be charactery, but not really in that way...

Rosie-

Mandy Gonzalez- can she dance it? I dunno..
Janine LaManna- I'll buy that, but not really ideal
NATASCIA DIAZ!!!

Mr. MacAfee- Dick Latessa- not really right, and too old, but maybe...
Mel Brooks- would never accept the role and a personality like that would pull focus

Kim- Jenn Gambatese- too old

Conrad- Marc Kudisch has done it, but is now too old
Hugh Panaro is too old and is not right at all, in voice or in looks

Mrs. MacAfee- Louise Pitre- she would never take it and I would NEVER buy her as '50's mom.... in a million years

Mae- Beth Fowler- that works, and she could be quite good

*snicker*

But Cheyenne Jackson isn't really playing Elvis! He's just playing a guy with slicked-up hair and blue suede shoes who kinda dances like Elvis and sings his songs but he's not Elvis!

And Conrad Birdie wasnt playing Elvis either...he was playing Conrad Birdie...it's the same god damn story, with a few minor adjustments! Why we needed it told again is BEYOND me and yes I LOATHE Bye Bye Birdie, ASU isnt as Loathesome, but still very, very similar.

I don't loathe it, but I never listen to the cast recording. It's just never done anything for me.

Bye Bye Birdie tour is rumoured to be cancelled. They already cancelled the Atlanta stop.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Ugh don't insult Bye Bye Birdie by comparing it to All Shook Up. I love Bye Bye Birdie.

I recently played Albert Peterson in a rather large production of BBB and had forgotten how much fun the show can be. The book would need to be updated though as it does seem a bit dated, but the material is still hysterical. The music is great...a classic Broadway score and new orchestrations like those in the Williams/Alexander/Kudisch movie don't hurt it. The choreography would have to be a knock-out and perhaps Ann Reinking could do it like she did for the movie. Here would be my picks for stars...

Albert-Noah Racey

Rose-Karen Ziemba/Natascia Diaz

Conrad-Matt Morrison

Kim-Sara Kramer

Mr./Mrs. MacAfee-Marc Kudisch/Jan Maxwell (since they're so good right now in 'Chitty.'

Mae Peterson-Frances Sternhagen

I saw the tour with Tommy Tune and Ann Reinking a while ago. Let's just say, any producer would be wise to skip this show...

Not bye bye birdie!!! Ahhhhhh! That show is in the running for my least favorite musical of all time...actually...I think it wins. Something about musicals that take place in the 50s. I just can't stand them.

Well it was supposed to come to Ft. Lauderdale, but was replaced by (ugh) Chicago... and someone said it was scrapped in Atlanta too. So maybe they did decide to cancel the tour?

that would be awesome-Bye Bye Birdie is one of my favorite shows. Even though its a little cheesy (and the movie is horrible-if you have seen it dont mix it up with the stage version its SO different) the songs are so cheery and the the dialouge is a great mix of sad and comical. I also love how there is a kid plot and adult plot. I'm in a production of it now, and its the most fun I've ever had in a show!
(Matthew Morrison for Conrad-he's already played an Elvis-type...)
anyway, if anything All Shook Up is a take off of Bye Bye Birdie, not the other way around.

Lord knows, at least I was there, and I'm here! Look who's here! I'm still here!-Follies When i see how sad you are it sort of makes me...happy!-Avenue Q
