Was at ADDAMS FAMILY tonight.... Started at 8:25 and lots of empty seats due to bomb scare... Creepy night!
The only car-bombs that should be happening on a Saturday night must include Guinness, Bailey's and Jameson!
I like the way you think EugLoven. Happy to hear that everyone in Times Square is safe and the NYPD, NYFD and NYC'ers are looking out for events like this and are willing to take charge and protect all. It's a group effort folks. We are all in it together.
dancingthrulife4 and I made our way over to the Palace to check the understudy board at West Side Story, only to find it difficult to get from the corner of 46th to 47th.
We made it to the Palace and decided to head back to the Richard Rodgers to check about Heights standing room. However, they had blocked off the entire area around us, so we made our way down and through the Hotel Edison to get to the Rodgers.
We found they had no standing room, so we just kind of stood around and helped people get their friends to the theater. At one point, half the cast of In The Heights and a good amount of Billy Elliot's cast were outside wondering what was going on, before being called in to finally start their respective shows.
A few moments later, a cop drives by and tells everyone to get off the sidewalk and into somewhere, so we asked if we could sit in the box office and wait out whatever this was.
A few moments later, we heard a bang and I literally wanted to curl up into a ball in the Rodgers box office and cry.
The cops were being very direct with their comments about keeping people off the sidewalk, but many people did not listen. The Marriot Marquis was locked down or evacuated, because several people kept trying to get back into their hotel and failed.
We ended up sitting in the box office through the entire first act and were later taken to seats for most of Act Two.
Many latecomers were given the change to post date their tickets for future performances. Also, they made an announcement at intermission that the police didn't want anyone to go outside.
I thank the Richard Rodgers box office and housing staff for being so kind and helpful through all of the confusion.
Part of the Marriot was evacuated and the guests were in a conference room or something. It is 3:41am in NYC as I type this and I am watching it live on CNN. The vehicle is still there and streets are still blocked off.
The Daily News article has a lot of detail.

I think the flashers were a deft touch. They tell the world: "You may think I'm an entitled A-hole for leaving my car here where it's not supposed to be, but I'm just running a quick errand and I will be back in two seconds, three seconds at the most."

"The episode wasn't even about Muhammad; he had a freakin' cameo and they're still freaking out."
No, they just recently hada two part episode all about Muhammad and the whole censorship thing. They wouldn't show him in th first episode, but you could hear him talking. In the second, they purposefully had him blocked out by one of those black bars you usually see over people's junk.
But then Comedy Central apparently decided to go a step further and bleep out every mention of his name (I'm still not sure if that was really CC or Parker and Stone).
Anyway, it just happened. That said, definitely just a coincidence. MTV does not "own" Comedy Central. They are both just networks owned by Viacom. Considering that CC is also located in NYC, they could have bombed their building if they were trying to send that specific message.
This sounds like some hillbilly terrorist work.

Yes, because this is what a Nissan Pathfinder looks like.
It would have been the Viacom offices not the MTV offices that would have been a target.
Viacom is in the same building as the Minskoff Theater.
I was next to the car that caused this whole commotion. If the bomb had been successful, I would have been vaporized I was so close, and I'm not exaggerating. Once I found out it was a car bomb attempt (I, along with many thought it was a car backfiring) I was quite shaken up.
[img]For his part, Rhatigan, 47, said he still plans to retire this year after 19 years of service.
"Of all the idiots in New York, I find this thing," he said. "I was almost a fireball.[/img]
I <3 NY. But on a serious note, NYPD did an excellent job handling this situation. It could've ended much differently.
I was in Times Square last night when the police started to close it off. This was about 7:15pm or so. My show - "Night Music," wasn't cancelled. Loved it!
I'm giving the most kudos to the street vendor who was alert and smart.
We'll be walking through Times Square in a little while to see singer Jack Donahue at Birdland.
Terrorists or just dangerous sickos--they can't keep New York and us New Yorkers down!
Hey PJ (or anyone else for that matter), could you tell us how Times Square looks when you're back? Just want to know if it looks more deserted than normal. I'm sure the police presence would be much larger today.
I can see Times Square from my bedroom window and it seems to be similar to what it always looks like. There is a growth in the NYPD population from what I can tell.
We needed a wake up call to jolt us from our complacency & got one
Luckily, the bomb did not explode. Next time, we may not be so lucky.
We needed a wake up call to jolt us from our complacency & got one
What complacency? If anything, the actions of non-complacent, alert NY-ers like the street vendors and police are what prevented this from being a tragedy.
Anyway, rest assured, NJ residents, Governor Fatso is "closely monitoring" the situation in NY, despite the fact that it has nothing to do with him. God forbid there ever was a crisis on his watch, I'd be terrified of him "leading" us through it
Governor Fatso is on the case!
By complacency I mean terrorism is way down on the list of things people worry about.

Seriously? I think you need to speak for yourself and maybe the people you associate with.
wow, word for word Adam Greer and Namo said exactly what I was thinking of posting about "our state of complacency."
Speak for yourself, Roxy.
Whatever
Maybe if it succeeds next time you will change your opinion.
So are people supposed to constantly be worried about a terrorist attack? Not do things that they would normally do for fear of one? I don't ask to be a jerk, I'm just genuinely interested in what you meant by complacency..... Should I be concerned about a terrorist attack every time I get on a plane or head into the city?
Times Square was busy as it normally is. I noticed more police in the area and in Grand Central than usual, but other than that nothing out of the ordinary. Glad to see that everyone is/was safe and things are alright now.
