The latest from where? Your imagination. It's nonsense. By the time the Chalamet comment started circulating, Leo was ahead of Tim.

PS # 1: The word is "gaffe."

PS #2: Post hoc ergo propter hoc does not fly.

The story didn't go viral until Oscar voting was almost closed.

While I'm sure Jordan and his team had a good chuckle over Chalamet's gaffe, there was already a turning tide against Chalamet, who was never a sure bet in the first place.

I had been surprised that Michael B. Jordan went months without being mentioned as a serious Best Actor contender given the critical acclaim Sinners has received. My impression is that voters were looking for a Chalamet alternative, in part because his campaign hit them the wrong way, because he’s still young, and because there was time for Marty Supreme to be reassessed.

And Jordan, the star of the most beloved film of the year (even if One Battle After Another took the big prize), was just sitting right there.

Chalamet was going to lose anyway. He damaged his reputation with the clumsily handled ballet and opera remarks, and there’s been a gleeful pile-on ever since - even in the Sinners Best Song performance.

But I don’t think any of this is the end of the world. Chalamet will survive. His.agents have done a good job picking projects for him. He’s a fine actor. Producers and audiences would line up for Chalamet’s Broadway debut, in case that happens.

But as someone who has watched Jordan since his memorable turn in the first season of The Wire nearly 24 years ago, he’s a terrific actor too. I am happy with the outcome.

As stated earlier in this thread, Chalamet didn't lose because of his ballet and opera statements as voting had already closed.

To his credit, he took Conan's joke about him pretty well by smiling.

He looked humiliated in later camera shots to me, as if he got publicly slapped. I get the backlash but I don’t believe for a minute that it is driven by the film industry’s love of theatre and ballet.

Timmy's next project should be Mikhail Baryshnikov or Rudolph Nureyev biopic. That'll show 'em.

Timothee C has now probably inadvertently given more publicity and goodwill towards Opera and Ballet in the popular culture than seen in decades. It’s actually like he should be thanked and not ridiculed at this point. Assuming that any of the outcry can actually translate into real ticket sales. If everyone who has been complaining about this bought tickets it would be a wonderful thing for both art forms.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

His next project should probably be to take a breather for a bit.

Agree to disagree. He smiled and seemed to laugh, see link.

I know this is now off the Timothy topic, but there's no dress code.

I'm back home in the cold this morning,  but Saturday night I went to LA Opera and whoa! what a mix of dress.  For such a short trip I was only packing carry on so just brought one pair of Adidas trsiners.  I had some black chinos and a short sleeve button down shirt - sort of an Aloha style that you leave untucked, but with a very small modest print. It was over 90 degrees Saturday!   But some of those LA f@gs go all out! One couple had these long flowing capes with about 2 foot trains that dragged behind  them -  one a modest golden colour and the other in a big floral pattern.   Underneath one had a golden tuxedo shirt and bow tie - he looked a bit like either a stage magician or an Imperial general from Star Wars. His 6'1" 300lb - ish partner wore short  pants similar to lederhosen and knee high combat boots in white leather.  He was accessorized with numerous gold chains and a large Swarovski crystal pendant (I overheard him tell someone that was Swarovski). He looked a bit like a  TV wrestler making his way into the ring.

I wish Akhnaten was as good a show as they were.  It's a big seller for LA Opera and they added at least one performance, but I found it an incoherent mess.  It reminded me of a Cirque du Soleil show where the performers sing vaguely classical style gibberish.

I didn't think l was wearing anything statement making, but I did have one fellow look me up and down & make some sort of assessment that he shared with his partner.  I was worried I accidentally had left either my fly or my Scruff app open.

I would never have guessed that on a Saturday night the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion would be one of the cruisiest spots in LA.

I won't reveal much but I do work in one of the artforms no one cares about anymore. I also first saw Chalamet in Prodigal Son off Broadway and believe he is a generational talent who said something with a twinge of truth albeit glibly. Pull the 990s of many of these major companies and you'll see the financial realities they are dealing with year in, year out. I have not seen the current internet outrage translate into an uptick in ticket sales or philanthropic support either, so if one really wants to be a stalwart defender of the ballet or opera, buy tickets, become a member, and/or donate.

This. His schtick promoting Marty Supreme was rubbing people the wrong way even before his comments. Very happy for Michael B. Jordan, who I have been a fan of since The Wire and Friday Night Lights. The right actor won last night.

His next film should be titled: Media Training (how not to piss on other art.)

His next film is actually titled "Dune: Part III," scheduled for release in December, and I expect it will have relentless pre-release media hype, probably starting softly during the summer and going into overdrive post-Labor Day. And guess who's going to be at the center of it all. So, not much of a breather.
