"To Wong Foo" The Musical?

Now, I know alot of people on here aren't crazy about movie to musical adaptations but does anyone think this could make a great musical?
I was watching the movie this morning and there are so many moments I feel could work really well on stage (A musical nubmber, "The Steps to becoming a Queen"). I know there's certainly alot of choice in drag musicals as of late (Priscilla, Kinky Boots) but does anyone think this could work? I think Robin De Jesus would be hilarious as Chi Chi.

When the movie came out most people considered it a remake of Pricilla even though they were made at the same time. The same thing would likely happen here with most people thinking "oh I already saw that musical about three drag queens driving cross country!" I would love for it to happen though since it's one of my favorite movies.

No. And I only say that because seeing Robin De Jesus play ChiChi would be like a knife into my heart.
And if Robin wants to go on Facebook and bash me for saying that, he can.

Perhaps in 20 years when Priscilla, Kinky Boots and the La Cage revival are not as fresh in our minds. Though I admit it would be refreshing to see the other version of Priscilla in a better stage production that wasn't quite so headache-inducing.
I think ChiChi should play Chi Chi.

I do think that Too Wong Foo would be a MUCH better musical than Priscilla and is much more ripe for musicalization but unfortunately it would just look like a Priscilla copy at this point.
And I love the typo in the subject! I propose a whole slew of bathroom humor musical parodies!

I've always liked To Wong Foo more than Priscilla. That's not saying much though.

Posted: 6/6/13 at 8:12pmPRISCILLA is an excellent film and TO WONG FOO is cotton candy fun. There's nothing wrong with saying you like them. I love them both.

Imma bump this because I agree that this movie has great moments worth musicalizing. The sheer shock value of Mama Ru descending from the heavens wearing a Confederate flag is gag worthy.

Re: The RuPaul flag thing. Wasn't last year's DISASTER enough to satisfy your cravings for camp? Lol...too much of a good thing is wonderful, I suppose. Said Liberace of all people.

I don't think this is going to be seen as anything more than a PRISCILLA knockoff. As someone said, an original score would help the cause, but probably not by much.
Patrick Page could be a great Vida Boheme.
Joshua Henry for Noxeema Jackson.
Anthony Ramos for Chi-Chi Rodriguez

I love both Priscilla and Wong Foo, but Wong Foo was much more stereotypical, hollywoodized, and unrealistic in comparison to Priscilla. If Wong Foo were to be made into a musical, there is probably no way they could avoid comparison to Priscilla
