I don't remember it. It's been a long while since I saw the show on tour. I've heard of the song, but I've never actually heard it. What the heck is she singing?

Susan Egan recorded "A Change in Me" on her 'so far...' CD and it's a fantastic recording. the song is great in the show because at that point there are no more solos left so it's nice to have one last sort of tender solo before the mob song, the battle and then finale. it also creates an additional moment between Belle and her father. also I think without it act two seems so much shorter than act one. it's a great song and it adds a lot, I think.

Yeah, she doesn't sound like the innocent girl that Belle is usually portrayed as.

Toni Braxton can really sing, however, I 100& don't think she makes a good Belle. Her voice is much, much too deep. Also, why did she get entire different costumes? Was it because she was a "name"? That hardly seems fair.

aigoo- in that case you'd be ann sanders (christmas eve u/s in ave q) who did all that but in the german cast- she was an asian woman playing a white french girl while singing in german

I cant imagine her as Belle, i havent seen her, but what I would imagine, with her set of pipes, she would come off too strong instead of the timid young girl Belle really is.

I actually laughed outloud when I read the Ann Sanders interview. God, I love that woman. She gives me hope. She actually lived in the city that I'm quite familiar with. I live about 30 minutes away from it.

But the problem is, I look a lot more "Asian" than Ann Sanders does. Well, atleast now I do. And I doubt I'll get those monster-Idina cheekbones or some beautiful Kelli-love...but we shall see, eh?


ETA: No, I am not Canadian...lack of sleep forced that "eh?" in there.

I have always regretted that they were never able to work Lea Salonga into the role. She wanted it, and from what I heard that wanted her for it, but the timing was never right until she got too old for it. She would have been fantastic!

Here is the link to Leah delos Santos Homepage. She was the original Belle in the Stuttgart Production. When she left Ann Sanders took over as 1st Cast Belle. Leah is from the Philippines and it was a big "scanal" when she got the part, because she was Asian!

When Toni Braxton went into "Beauty and the Beast" they had to change the keys for her--in fact, some of the chorus books still have songs in the "Toni" key, which is very confusing. That's why "A Change in Me" sits so much lower than the rest of Belle's songs and makes the role awkward to voice-cast now. I do like the song, though--it gives Belle more of an arc than the original cartoon did.
